PLEASE ADVISE - need to backup Mac with several drives attached to growing number of disks

Thread needs solution

We have a shared Mac (with several drives attached, ca.60TB of media data) that we need to backup, using incremental deduplicating backups to other external drives. We already have a Tape solution (Retrospect) but I am looking for an alternative. Basically, I want to use backup disks as one would use removable media to continuously backup the mac (and the drives attached to it) and never delete backups or versions of the files. Which software can do that? Thank you!

Dan-disk, hello!

Thank you for your message. I will be happy to help you in choosing the right product.

To my mind, the best product for you is Acronis Backup (Advanced) 12.5 Workstation.

  1. You can back up your Mac by installing an agent on it.

Note: Currently it is not possible to install a management server on Mac. You can either use a Windows or a Linux machine to install the Acronis management server OR purchase a subscription license and use a cloud-based management server.

  1. Since you will be using rotating devices, it is important to make sure that all the prerequisites are met: https://kb.acronis.com/content/58372
  2. With Acronis Backup 12.5 we introduced a new backup format 12 (tibx) which already has a built-in block-level deduplication.
  3. Additionally please check the comparison table between Acronis Backup 12.5 and Acronis Backup Advanced 12.5 to choose the right product.

I hope this answers your questions. If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact me.

Wishing you all the best.
