Email notifications problem: Date missing
Hello,
I Must integrate acronis backup 12 to our monitoring infrastructure. We use PRTG Net Monitor, and we're facing a simple but serious problem:
Emails generated by acronis backup lack the sent date in the mail header. Since the monitoring solution is looking specifically for that field (since time of arrival could be incorrect and could provide delayed/false results).
At first, I thought this was going to happen with the "test messages" only, but when I finally received a real alert (backup successful notification) I could tell that this is still happening.
I've been searching for any template that could be missing this information. I've found a send_mail.py script ( templates\notification_service\logic, within a zip file in Program Files\Acronis\NotificationService ) that seems to be the core of the mailing feature and it has no date parameter, but I really don't know (nor am I sure) if this is for informational purposes only, since it is contained in a zip file.
Long story short, since the outgoing emails have no sent date in the header, our monitoring solution cannot tell how old the recevied alerts are. This is critical for us, since we would like to trigger an alarm in our current monitoring infrastructure in case a set of backups do not report successfully in a 24 hours period (!).
I will attach a headers comparison between an acronis backup mail notification and a manually sent mail.
Thanks in advance,
Agustin

Hello Igor, thanks for your reply
Yikes, then there must be something wrong. Yes, this is a clean installation. I downloaded the installer recently, and also when facing this problem I tried to check for updates but it seems I'm running the current version. I'm willing to reinstall the OS (2012r2) and start from scratch, just in case. I'll keep you updated.

Agustin

I have the same problem with email. I run the latest build (Update 3) of advanced 12.5 version. Emails from acronis backup plans have no date header. So if I close my email client on friday and open it again on Monday, all email notifications from Acronis backup plans that finished on weekend have the current date and time (Monday morning).

Hello,
I wanted to say that I wasn't able to solve this. The "solution" I found is using a personal GMAIL account to send the alerts. It works. Yet, the acronis software does have a problem with dates with "other" email providers.

Agustin

Athanasios, if you have time for investigation, I'd recommend raising a support ticket for this issue, so that our engineers can take a look at the situation. Before contacting support, please make sure you are using the latest available build, which is currently 10130. I'd also test with a Gmail account to confirm whether the issue is specifically related to the custom SMTP servers.

I have the same problem. Probably gmail works because it adds the field as soon as the server received the message. But this is the "receive" date and not the date of the message. Furthermore, other servers doens't add the date. Clients add the receive date (obviously) but in that case the date is when you have downloaded the message from the server. For example, using Thunderbird after a weekend, I receive all notifications with the same date and time, that is when I ran the client on monday morning.
That is a problem to me, too. The header is bad formatted.
