zivshosh, if the Acronis integration with Windows Explorer is not working, then I would recommend doing a Repair install of the application.

To do a Repair, download the latest version of the ATI installer from your Acronis account, then install this as Administrator / using an Administrator account without uninstalling the current application software.

I waited for build 12510

installed

than reinstalled to repair

and tib monitor doesn't work

what can I do now?

Are you using Windows Explorer here or are you using a different file explorer program?

The next step would be to perform a Clean install of ATI 2018.

Before doing this you should use the new option on the ATI GUI Settings page at the bottom, for Backup settings transfer, and Save settings to file... so that your backup configuration information is saved ready to Import after the clean install.

For the clean install, first uninstall ATI 2018 normally via the Control Panel > Programs & Features > Uninstall option.

Next, download the Acronis Cleanup Tool (link in my signature) and run this as Administrator, followed by restarting the computer to complete the action.

Finally, after the restart, reinstall the ATI 2018 build 12510 using an Administrator account then import your saved configuration settings.

Greetings

followed your steps carefully and meticulously.

Uninstall was a bit of a problem but after taking ownership of few ProgramData parts uninstall was completed.

One file in C:\Program Files (86)\Common Files\Acronis: libcrypto10.dll refused to be deleted. I had to reinstall again to delete it.

Finally I installed Acronis True Image 2018 b12510 and.... nothing happened!

tib still doesn't open to Explorer screen.

I didn't understand your question about windows explorer. It is part of windows OS. I use a file manager Total Commander. Why does it matter?

Thank you for your help so far

I tried to open the tib thru Windows Explorer and it didn't help.

Next I tried to open with... browsing to "c:\Program Files (x86)\Common Files\Acronis\TibMounter\TibMounterMonitor.exe" and it didn't work either. The tibmountermonitor doesn't work. I thought to run it and browse for the tib.

Should I go back to 2017, 2016 etc.?

thanks

Sorry to hear that the clean install did not resolve this issue, I can only recommend that you open a Support Case directly with Acronis and let them investigate this issue directly with you.

This is exactly what I did.

Started a chat with support that ended in a remote control session.

The support guy couldn't solve the problem. He was surprised when he saw date & time on backup files but I explained that it is not done by renaming but by changing the scripts for existing backups before the backups were taken. He created his own backup without the date & time stamp and couldn't explore it either. Finally he took few logs and promised to mail if he finds anything.

Is tibmountermonitor.exe a process at startup?

not only I see it as a running process but each time I try to explore a tib or run the monitor it doubles itself in memory.

Even when I delete all tibmountmonitor processes it doesn't work.

and another question: can my antivirus interfere with tib monitoring (Kaspersky AV)?

Thank you again

Good to know that you have had a live chat with Acronis support.

You should ensure that all the required Acronis Services and Processes are active / running on your computer.

These in turn should cause the TibMounter process to be started.

You may need to whitelist the Acronis processes in your Kaspersky AV software.

See KB 46430: Acronis Software: Making Acronis Products Compatible with Antivirus Software

Hello Steve

Regarding your list of services and processes: I think we found something there.

two services are missing: anti_ransomware_service (because I neutralized it. I don't trust Acronis in this field and there are other tools) and acronis_drive

I don't have experience in adding services but I have long experience with the registry. so if this service is crucial how do I add it? and why it did not reappear after removing, cleaning, and reinstalling?

As for what is called processes in this list I think they are not constantly in memory but only upon using them except for TrueImageMonitor and TibMounterMonitor, and I don't think TrueImageMonitor is necessary since it relates to the neutralized anti_ransomware

The rest of them should appear only when the program is run like: TrueImage, TrueImageHomeService, TrueImageHomeNotify, trueimagetools, mediabuilder, cdrecord, autopart, uninstall.

If I'm wrong and they are real processes (always in memory) how do I insert them?

many many thanks for your support

Hello Steve

I read the KB related to antivirus & firewall. Kaspersky was not mentioned but I added TibMounterMonitor.exe as trusted application. Did that also for the Firewall and found all acronis applications already there (except for the tib monitor)

maybe it will help

thanks again

The AAP service (anti-ransomware) has nothing to do with opening .tib files and can be disabled as needed, as can most of the other services such as NSB and Mobile Backup, Sync Agent.

The only required Acronis Service is the Acronis Scheduler2 Service which should always be present and active for the base functions of ATI to work correctly.

The services will control which Acronis processes get started, so there should not be any need to start these manually unless they have been blocked by your security software, or stopped manually and need restarting.

Thank you again

You didn't say anything about my missing service acronis_drive so I guess it is also not connected to tib monitoring.

Few weeks ago I was playing with context menus (too many programs that I don't want are present in these menus and I wanted to keep them simple and relevant) so I may have kicked out Acronis.

Is that important?

Other than that I made few upgrades to existing programs like calibre (epub reader) that seem completely irrelevant.

So I guess it ends all my questions and I'll have to wait for answers from the support guy I had a chat and remote session with.

In any case Acronis backup and recover still work. And I have another backup program Easeus Todo Backup for which I bought a lifetime license and I can explore the backup!

many many thanks

zivshosh,

You should make sure the file type .tib is associated to Windows File Explorer as if it is not then you cannot open .tib files to see the contents in side.

You do not say what version of Windows you are running, doing so may help here.

To check on file associations please see the article HERE

Thank you Enchantec

It is associated with windows explorer and I tried to open with windows explorer.

what is the tibmountermonitor for? why does it run?

I'm running windows 10 pro ver,1803 b17134.112

TibMounterMonitor.exe Mounts .tib files

2018-06-23 10_18_50 Acronis Processes.png2018-06-23 10_21_05 right-click.png

TibMounterMonitor is watching for any requests to Mount a .tib image to a drive letter so is not involved directly in Windows File Explorer opening a .tib file to browse the contents.

I have tested double-clicking on .tib files in Explorer with ALL Acronis Services & Processes stopped and can still explore the contents of the .tib file, so this is still a Windows Shell Integration issue on your computer at play here.

bingo!

I accidently deleted this context menu item of Acronis

Does it mean that Acronis 2018  works like Macrium and present the tib in a virtual drive?

How do I set it back this missing context menu?

where is it found in the registry?

Thank you

found in registry .tib --> ShellNew and it has NullFile instead of Mount & Validate

I just need to know if Mount is operated by tibmountmonitor.exe and what stands behind validate?

thank you

A Repair Install of ATI 2018 run as Administrator should resolve these shell integration / registry settings issues for you without needing to do this manually.

did a repair as administrator, restarted pc and nothing changed

there must be a way to restore Acronis True Image Shell menu

thank you

The best way forward that I can recommend would be as follows:

Save your current ATI task configuration settings to a file via the option on the bottom of the Settings menu in the GUI.

Uninstall ATI 2018 via the Control Panel.

Download / run the Acronis Cleanup Tool as Administrator (link in my signature).

Restart the computer to complete the cleanup actions.

Reinstall ATI 2018 as Administrator

Import your saved task configuration settings from the file created in the first step.

already did that with no results since you already gave me that advice a day or two before.

I probably kicked acronis context menu with Nirsoft's ShellExView but there must be a way to put it back by registry editing

I think it should be in class {C539A15A-....} but I don't know how

Hello Steve

tishell.dll is indeed a running process, at least some of it functions.

ShellExView of Acronis contextmenu doesn't help me since I don't know how to set it back.

Of course they are missing from my ShellExView (and I don't have the option to ass).

I already know that the main class involved is {C539A15A-...} but it contains only (default) which does nothing

Somewhere in the registry I should insert Mount and Validate.

Since clean install and repair didn't help the only solution I see is to go back in time (with Acronis backups) until I get to the time before I tempered with the context menu. Or else I'll drop Acronis and work with Easeus & Macrium.

Thank you

I have exported all the registry entries I can find from my Win 10 64-bit system for the tishell.dll and tishell64.dll entries and attached this in a zip file.

Please make a backup of your own registry before importing any of these entries and use these at your own risk.  You can also try to compare your own entries with those shown in the text file.

many thanks

I didn't found Mount and Validate in the reg file but surely it will correct few things

Hello Steve

Thank you for the reg file.

As I suspected incorporating it in the registry didn't help since it did not contain the menu:

Acronis True 0mage > Mount >/Validate >

As I see it since nothing helped I have two options: go back in time with Acronis restore to a date when I still had this context menu, or do clean uninstall of 2018 and install 2017 and then upgrade to current version

thanks again

If you are running Windows 10, you do not need to load WIn 7.1 then WIN 10, just do a clean install of Windows 10. Before doing that I would try doing a reset of Windows 10.

Ian

zivshosh, I have searched again through the Windows Registry for both Mount / Validate and cannot find any reference to these terms in the context of the Acronis TrueImageHome shell menu entries.

Doing a clean install of ATI 2018 should have removed and reinstated all the shell menu items as if you were doing a first time install of the application, but this all needs to be performed using an Administrator level account in order to have the correct authority / privileges.

Hello Steve

Today I tried to restore back to June 1st hoping that the Acronis context menu were alive and active then.

It failed (doesn't happen much with Acronis restore). All drive letters were confused and none was active so I had no active system. Easeus also failed. Then I managed to set system drive as active but still couldn't start. Finally I  restored with Macrium and everything fell back in place.

My question is: After last windows update a 850MB recovery section was "taken" from C:

Could this be a confusing factor that caused Acronis restore to shuffle drive letters and leave the system inactive?

if so I have another tib from May 17 and I'm willing to go back a month and a half ( I think last windows update happened after that).

Thank you

If you are restoring a full disk backup then provided you restore at the disk level, all the partitions should be given the correct drive letters.

See forum topic: [How to] recover an entire disk backup which shows how to do the above rather than needing to configure each individual partition in the backup.

When any disk recovery is performed, the first action will always be to wipe the target drive, so any new Windows Recovery partitions would be removed by that wipe action and the drive put back to how it was when the backup image was created.

It is a small SSD of 128GB. It was defined as disk backup and when restoring I was asked to check mark C, MBR, recovery partition and of course I checked all three. But when the backup (full backup) was done the recovery partition did not exist.

So what happens if I don't check the recovery partition? does the backup put the tib on the whole 128GB or do I get an unallocated 850MB partition?

Macrium succeeded since it was done after windows update.

I read ATIH 2017 Disk Restore.pdf and I did exactly the same.

The question remains what happens if I take and old tib and do not mark the recovery partition?

It did not existed then when backup was done but it exist now so does the tib copies it contents to the whole disk or does the recovery partition remains after acronis restore?

thank you

When you are doing a full disk recovery, you should restore at a disk level which will restore all the partitions that were present when that full disk backup was created.  Any partitions on the target drive before the recovery will be wiped as I stated earlier.  If you start deselecting individual partitions from your full disk backup when doing a recovery, then you are no longer doing a disk level recovery.

Simple example:

Disk layout before recovery:  Partitions 1, 2, 3, 4, 5

Disk layout when recovery starts: No partitions - disk wiped.

Disk layout after recovery:  Partitions 1, 2, 3, 4  (as captured in the disk backup .tib file).

Hello Steve

If I understood you correctly not choosing the recovery partition will not help since the recovery partition will be wiped but the SSD will still have an empty 850MB partition.

Thank you

The SSD will only have an empty 850MB partition if there was one there when the backup being restored was created and it was included in the backup image.  If it didn't exist when the backup was created, then it cannot be restored and will not exist after the restore is done.
