Unable to Open Backup Files

Thread needs solution

Dear Friends,

I just bought and installed Acronis True Image Home 2010 on my Hewlett-Packard Pavilion dv9700t Laptop. The Laptop has the 64-bit version of Windows Vista Ultimate on it.

I also have a home-made Desktop computer with a 32-bit version of Windows XP Home edition with SP3. It has Acronis True Image 10 installed on it.

I do a backup of the desktop of my Desktop computer, using Acronis True Image 10, to an external hard-drive. I disconnect the external hard-drive and take it to my Laptop. I plug it into the Laptop and open the backup. I then find that I can access the files as icons on it, but cannot open them to view their contents. I right-click them and the only options given are open or copy.

What I seem to have wound up with, in practical terms, is more limited than if I simply dragged, dropped and copied from my Desktop to the external hard-drive.

What's the corrective?

Regards to all from

Hello John,

Thank you using Acronis Products
According to the Backward Compatibility KB article http://kb.acronis.com/content/3838 you should mount and explore backup archives created with Acronis True Image 10.0 Home, so there is no version incompatibility issue here.
Make sure that Acronis True Image Backup Archive Explorer is Enabled in Device Manager (Right-click on MY Computer -> Properties -> Hardware -> Device Manager -> Unfold Acronis Devices -> Right-click on Acronis Devices -> Select Acronis True Image Backup Archive Explorer -> Choose Enabled).

Dear Dmitry,

In the driver tab of the <Acronis Backup Archive Explorer Properties> window of the Laptop (in which I'm trying to open the backup files) the driver is shown as enabled, so there seems to be another problem aside from the one that you addressed.

I might say that if I move (drag, drop and copy) any of the backup files from the external hard-drive to the desktop of the Laptop, I can open them there with no problems.  On the other hand, and in contrast, if I plug the external hard-drive into my Desktop computer, I can open all the files directly from that external hard-drive.

The version of Acronis True Image that I have on my Desktop (from which I backed up) is 10.0 (build 4,871).  The version on my Laptop, on which I'm trying to open the files, is 2010 (build 5.055).

What next?

Regards,

John Owens

John,
You might try updating True Image 10 to build 4942 (english) if that's the language that you are using.

Not sure that I understand how you're opening the file.  Note that Dmitry used the expression mount.  If you're trying to use Windows Explorer that might be the problem.
