Enzo, the error messages you have listed indicate a disk error on your target disk drive, assuming that hard disk '1' is your first disk as shown in Windows as drive 0.

Please see KB 59873: Acronis True Image 2017: recovering Windows from a boot failure and in particular the Troubleshooting section and the tools listed below this for different makes of disk drive.

Steve,

thanks for your reply.

please apologise but I cannot understand  which is the disk faulty. I mean is the disk that has the backup on ( D: ) or the one that has to be restored ( C: )?

I have also tried to make a new installation on the C disk of Windows 10 and it get trough without any problem.

Thats why I can’t understand which is the faulty disk.

Any help will be really appreciated

Enzo

Enzo, the problem disk is the one you are restoring to, as it is when writing the data to that disk that the error is being given.

It is possible that a new install of Windows 10 would not write to the same area of the disk as ATI is trying to restore data too, especially if this is in the Recovery partition at the end of the drive, where the new install wouldn't create that Recovery partition (it gets created when doing a new Windows Update build like the Spring Creators Update).

Enzo, as recommend above:

Please see KB 59873: Acronis True Image 2017: recovering Windows from a boot failure and in particular the Troubleshooting section and the tools listed below this for different makes of disk drive.

Check what make your C: disk drive is, then download / use the diagnostic tool for that make of drive to do a full drive check.

Dedicated diagnostic utilities from the disk manufacturers take the longest time to complete the checks, but provide the most accurate methods of checking whether the disk is good or needs replacement:

 - Western Digital drives: Data Lifeguard Diagnostic for Windows

 - Seagate disks: SeaTools for Windows

 - HGST disks: HGST Windows Drive Fitness Test (WinDFT)

 - Intel SSDs: Intel Solid State Drive Toolbox

 - Samsung drives: Samsung Magician

 - ADATA drives: ADATA SSD ToolBox

 - Kingston SSDs: Kingston SSD Toolbox, Kingston SSD Manager

 - Transcend SSDs: Transcend SSD Scope

 - Silicon Power disks: SP ToolBox

 - Toshiba disks: Toshiba PC Diagnostic Tool Utility

If no issues were found with the disk, contact Acronis Customer Central for further help with system recovery as explained here.

Steve the disk is a Samsung 850 EVO 250GB.

I've been on the Samsung page you linked but cannot understand whic is the program to download.

Will you please point me to the right one?

Thanks

Enzo

Enzo, thanks for the update that you have a Samsung SSD - the only tool that Samsung provide is their Samsung Magician software which needs to be installed in order to be used, which is not very helpful if you do not have a working OS on the SSD!

If you have Windows 10 installed, then you could download / install the Magician software and use that to test the drive / see if that shows any errors.

See webpage: Samsung Official SSD Tools where another user asked the same question a few years ago, where the answer does not look to have changed!

Steve,

been on the Samsung site and find two programs:

Samsung Magician Software for Consumer SSD(3)

and

Samsung Magician Software for Enterprise SSD(5)

which one to get?

Thanks

Enzo

Enzo, you are a consumer of Samsung SSD products, so that is the version to choose.

In reply to by truwrikodrorow…

Thanks Steve.

Got the program and installed but what to run to see the SSD if it had bad clusters?

 Thanks

Enzo

Enzo, sorry but I do not have a computer with a Samsung SSD installed so cannot guide you on using the Samsung Magician software.  Looking at the Magician product webpage suggests that it can do a Drive Health Check plus also does S.M.A.R.T checks which should give a good indication of any issues with the drive.

Steve and Enzo, many of my PCs have Samsung SSD mainly for OS drive. The software is more limited than those from mechanical drives, but it does check SMART status but does not have extended disk testing. It makes sure that TRIM is activated.

Ian

Hello Steve and Ian,

first thanks Ian for you collaboration.

Steve, Ian when i open the program i get as the picture attached.

What to choose to see if the SSD is OK or faulty?

Thanks

Enzo,

I have a different version of Magician, but I think you just need to click on the button labeled S.M.A.R.T. - which appears to be on the panel on the left, near the middle. Looks like my button, but in a different location.

Once you enter S.M.A.R.T panel you'll get detail error status.

TI error does indicate an issue writing data to that drive. Good Luck.

CC,

i do not find the S.M.A.R.T.

Where it is?

Thanks.

I have tried to re install the Magician software and when i run it i get just two option:

System Compatibility and Performance Benchmark

Enzo

Enzo,

Ok, attached is a picture of my Magician panel showing where my S.M.A.R.T. button is. The other picture is of your panel and I circled what might be your button.

If that isn't it you will be able to find it somewhere in the menus. In the top right corner, what is in the various views <01/10> ?

If you can't find it, tell us what your version of Magician is.

i have activated the S.M.A.R.T button but i do not see any errors:

Hi Enzo,

I now realize that over that S.M.A.R.T button it says "Buone" , or Good. Sorry, I am English only, and not too good at that!

So I notice that you have "Modalita AHCI - Non attiva". That probably means your BIOS is set to RAID rather than AHCI. This shouldn't be an issue, but who knows? I have seen Dell systems recently that ship with RAID enabled, even though they are single drive.

In addition, if you can enable AHCI you could turn on Rapid Mode, which does give the SSD a pretty fair performance boost. You see the switch on the lower right side for Rapid Mode.

I vaguely remember being able to change BIOS from RAID to AHCI before running Acronis Recovery. Might try that. I would.

Actually i have it as IDE .

Should i set it as AHCI or leave it as IDE????
Thanks

Enzo

I suppose you have an older system then. I don't know if that can be done, but trying can't hurt would it?

Running AHCI is the best configuration but may not solve this issue.

Same exact error?

So do you get this error right away, or after some time?

OH. Well, the first thing I would do is to make sure you can verify that you can even use the recovery media to do simple file restores. I would think your SSD is fine and there is some sort of issue with your recovery configuration.

May I assume you have a USB hard drive that you are backing up to? Are you using the same USB port for backup &  restore?

You have successfully installed Windows 10 on your SSD. Now try to restore some files from your backup device onto that temporary build. Just some files, not the system image.

Please apologize i am lost now.

will you please tell me step by step what to do?

i have tried also with different ports and also with an usb Pendrive.

Thnaks

Enzo.

Original error details from the initial post of this topic.

Failed to write data to disk.
Failed to write to Sector '2,547,729' of hard disk '1'.
Direct R/W operation has failed. (0x590001)
Input/output error (0xFFF1)

Enzo, if you are still getting the original write error (as above) when restoring your Acronis backup to your Samsung SSD drive, then sorry but changing the rescue media used or using different USB ports for the rescue media would never resolve this.

Ideally, you need a spare HDD or SSD drive of similar capacity that you can use to replace the Samsung SSD and test restoring to that spare drive.  If the restore then succeeds, it will again show that there is an issue with the Samsung SSD.

Enzo,

Steve is right, the error you are seeing indicates that the issue is with the SSD. Replacing this drive and then trying to recover will determine if this is in fact the issue. The fact that you can reinstall Window 10 on this same drive without issue doesn't completely rule out the problem is the SSD.

Since you may not have a replacement drive available, all I am suggesting is that you simply try to run a file recovery test - from the Acronis program which can be installed on the Windows 10 system you have been able to create with the clean install. This is just a quick way to verify that your backup is probably valid and your backup drive is working properly before you purchase a new drive to replace the SSD.

These sort of errors you are getting are not 100% reliable and I would try to eliminate the possibility that you have an issue with the backup media itself or some sort of hardware issue that is not the SSD.

CC and Steve,

i tried today to make a new Windows 10 Installation.

Made a new backup in a different HD.

I' have tried then to restore it and it get trough without any problems.

Now i would like to do what CC said.

I Have downloaded the Acronis True Image 2018, installed it,

(but do not know if i can use my serial number that i got when i bought the Acronis True Image 2016

or i need to buy the 2018 again.), and runned it but cannjot understand which is the option to do what CC said.

Please can anyone point me to the right way??

Thanks

Enzo

Enzo, if you have a license / serial for ATI 2018 then you will be able to use this for the new copy of ATI 2018 you have installed providing the license / serial is for as many computers as you are installing and activating the product for.

If you only have a single license for ATI 2018 and this is already used on a different computer then you would either need to buy a new license (or an upgrade from your 2016), or else use ATI 2018 as a 30-day trial product to test your recovery actions.

You do a Files & Folders recovery test in several ways.

Using Windows Explorer, double-click on your backup .TIB file to open and explore the contents, then use Copy & Paste to copy some files / folders to your internal SSD drive.  Please do NOT do this for any Windows system files / folders or programs.  This should only be used for your own user data.

Using ATI 2018, first Add your existing backup .TIB file in the ATI GUI using the option that is provided at the bottom on the main Backups panel, then use the Recovery page at the top right of the panel to select what you want to recover and where to recover it too.

Enzo,

Maybe just download/install 2016 since you have the product key:

http://dl2.acronis.com/s/AcronisTrueImage2016.exe

File recovery is pretty easy - refer to Chapter 5.2:

https://www.acronis.com/en-us/download/docs/ati2016/userguide/

I'd try and recover just a few files from various locations. What to do next depends on the results.

Good luck.

Enzo,

Steve's advice is good.

Enzo, one further question?

Do you have more than one backup image that you could try for this restore problem?
For example, if you are restoring from the latest Incremental or Differential image from a backup version chain with multiple files, can you try restoring from an earlier file?  Or if you have more than one Full backup image files, can you try a different file?

This would help to confirm CC's thoughts that the errors you are seeing may be being caused by an issue with the backup image you are restoring from?
