Acronis Backup and Recovery 10 -- need to manually uninstall

Thread needs solution

I am using Advanced Server trying to install a remote agent. The system BSODs on reboot (thanks for the heads up when I installed it... oh wait I didn't get any). I had to reinstall/repair a lot of other applications since I rarely reboot for fun.

When I tried to repair the installation on the Agent, it said there was some unsigned driver and then said the file was missing. It was a very very very strange file name (I will post it here later), but all in all, I chalk it up to a heavily damaged install but no way to easily roll back.

I say this because Universal Restore cannot install without B&R10 installed. Yet, I am able to reinstall Universal Restore without a hitch. Furthermore, when I try to reinstall B&R10, it already has my license server picked with no way to change it. It is the correct, however I usually only see this if a remnant of the original install is in there.

Obviously, this has installed properly before (I have a few snaps of it), obviously there are remnants of the old install, I've tried manually removing it but it appears to be more involved than the True Image uninstall thread that I read.

What's the manual process to doing so?

Carroll,

I empathize with you on this matter.  I am sorry I do not have a solution but I am facing the same issue.  Mine differs thusly:  I had True Image Echo Enterprise installed and was having problems getting backups.  Tech support (and I use this term very loosely) couldn't solve the problem and kept pushing on me the notion to upgrade to ABR10 Advanced Server.  So, I did, and it was a huge mistake.  I uninstalled True Image, restarted, then began my ABR10 installation.  About half way through the agent install, the server got a BSOD, restarted, then went into a loop of BSOD, restart, BSOD, restart, etc.  Support told me that it was likely an issue with the old SNAP driver not being removed during the uninstallation of True Image and now the installation of the new SNAP driver was causing a conflict.  My server was trashed.  I couldn't even boot into Last Known Good Configuration.  I had to wipe the OS and reinstall.  This in turn caused multiple problems due to that machine being the original DC on the domain and I just spent about $600 in support from a company yesterday to get the new server install straightened out.  As if I didn't learn my lesson, I installed ABR10 again on that server but can't connect to the agent with the management console.  Support pointed me to a document to help resolve the issue even though it was a document regarding a completely different error than what I was receiving.  The document was worthless in resolving the issue.  On a whim I decided to restart the Acronis services to see if that would help.  When I restarted the Managed Machine service it crashed my server.  I'm fed up and I just want a document, as you do, to completely remove ABR10 Advanced Server from my DC.  If you find one, please email it to me at twelvevltmn@yahoo.com.  Good luck.  Also, take a look at ShodowProtect Server from Storagecraft....kevin

As promised, the missing file is
timntr_a64.sys

Now, depending on how I try to reinstall the system, it will either say "hey, where is the Acronis True Image install disk" which I find a bit funny since I am installing B&R10 OR I will BSOD during the installation process (joy!).

I suppose that filename means True Image Mounter for 64 bit systems. Seems dangerous for me to get my hands on it. Should I?

As a side note, I was able to "repair" the installs on 2 other Advanced Server installs I have. I have rebooted one, but not the other, yet they do have the new Snaps installed. I am too afraid to reboot the mail server yet. Again, I just want a document to fully remove the software from one of the servers so I can reinstall.

[edit]

The manual process in uninstalling is
http://kb.acronis.com/sites/default/files/content/2009/07/2975/win2003x…

However, I still run into issues with installing the agent. (timounter fails to install)

I found this info from another Acronis support personnel.

Please install Acronis True Image to some computer temporarily, navigate to \WINDOWS\system32\drivers, find timntr.sys file, copy it to another folder, rename the copy to timntr_2k.sys and point your Windows Repair Installation wizard to this file.

Thank you.

This worked for me and the installation continued.

Wow, I haven't logged into the forums in months, and the timing could not be better for you.

I apologize for the sloppy way I posted my message, you are right that the link is broken now, but if you continue reading through, you will see that the method did not work for me anyways.

Ultimately, the solution for me was to find another machine to install the product on, and copy the required file over to the other machine.

I saw on another post a link to REVO uninstaller. that solved the problem of uninstalling. I just finished reinstall now lets see if the scheduled job will run.

Thanks for the resposne.

Oh, could you refer the link here? Is that an Acronis product or some 3rd party uninstaller software?
