A required privilege is not held by the client
I've been through this more and more lately under various TI versions. Sometimes I've found a way to get around it but not this time, even with a clean uninstall, reinstall, and various other attempts and registry changes. No matter what I do I get the following:
1 True Image 8/11/2018 10:43:21 AM Backup reserve copy attributes: format tib; need_reserve_backup_copy false;
2 True Image 8/11/2018 10:43:21 AM Operation Entire PC (ENEWBERRY-DAVIS) started manually.

Under TI 2016 I can't change the snapshot service as far as I know, and I'm running this with as high a privilege level as I can give things, but I'm obviously missing something. Any help would be appreciated.

In reply to Joel, are you running ATI… by truwrikodrorow…

OK, I did what you said. I've run VSS Doctor before on other issues and did again this time. It typically finds 1 problem, not enough storage allocated, so I let it fix that. Then I run the backup again with the same unfortunate result.
Next, I did what you recommended with turning VSS off. It didn't work until I rebooted, but after that it gave me the same exact error I posted in the original post, down below. At one point even after giving me the error it proceeded on but was stuck in "Calculating time remaining" and never moved at all. So it makes no sense that setting VSS to false didn't seem to take effect for whatever reason, but basically I still can't get it to run.
Last, not related to this post, I'm not getting notified when a post is updated like your post, even though "Notify me when new comments are posted" is checked. Don't know what that's all about.
Here's the log:

Joel, back to my earlier question: are you running ATI 2016 from an Administrator account / did you install it using the same?
See KB 46430: Acronis Software: Making Acronis Products Compatible with Antivirus Software and the further links from this document.
Finally, try deleting all the files in C:\Users\[your_username]\AppData\Local\VirtualStore\ProgramData\Acronis\TrueImageHome\Database to see if this makes any difference. Note: this folder path may not even exist, so ignore if not found.

Well, I did get notified this time on the forum post update, so that part is good.
Sorry for not answering this: Are you running ATI 2016 from an Administrator account / did you install it using the same?
Well, I thought you were onto something there, because although I thought I'd installed in under an admin account and was running it under one, in truth I hadn't. I had logged in as a domain admin, but that account wasn't established on the machine as a local admin. So I corrected that, did a clean uninstall of TI 2016, reinstalled under the local admin account, and tried again, but with the same result unfortunately.
When I set up the backup each time and attempt to run it for the first time, it's always prompting me for Windows credentials. That's not the network ones to the backup location which I've already provided, but Windows. I never know exactly what to put there because I don't want to enter my own domain credentials where the password may change, so I set up one called Acronis on the machine with membership in both Backup Operators & Administrator, and that often works, but not this time.
I also did the eSet antivirus exclusions recommended, but that didn't help either. I'm attaching what VSS Doctor showed as events, and maybe that'll help clue you in. Thx.

Joel, sorry that the same issues look to be continuing here.
For the VSS Doctor errors, you should click on the link to 'Search in Google' which will use the error data to form the search argument and try to offer you results based on this.

In reply to Joel, sorry that the same… by truwrikodrorow…

Well, none of that helped me either. I'm about at the point of installing TI 2018 just so I can have some support when and if it does the same thing.

Joel, if you have not already purchased ATI 2018, then consider joining the ATI 2019 Beta testing programme which will give you support as needed plus will provide for much longer period of support as that for 2018 will end 1 month after the public announcement of 2019. Acronis normally announce their new releases in September and will be offering upgrade discounts.

That sounds good, with the following exceptions:
Is the beta a perpetual license or a subscription one? I want perpetual.
Won't I be at the mercy of whatever they price it at 3 months from now?

Joel, the Beta period is a limited subscription license but ATI 2019 will be available as both a perpetual and subscription license. You would normally be expected to uninstall the Beta software once the Beta trial period reaches a natural end but this will normally be longer than taking a 30-day trial copy of ATI 2018.
Backups made by the Beta product will still be valid afterwards, and with ATI 2018 & later versions, you get a new Settings option where you can save your task configuration to a zip file and import these settings back again after a reinstall.

In reply to Joel, the Beta period is a… by truwrikodrorow…

Well, I put the beta on this morning and it appears to be running. I have no idea what was going on with TI 2016 but 2019 didn't ask for Windows Credentials and is running as it should.

Joel, that sounds good plus gives you an opportunity to try out the new features of the beta version. You will have access to the Beta forums for giving any feedback / read what others are saying.
