ATIH2018 bootmedia verify fail...still shutdown?

Thread needs solution

I'm running backups with the ATIH2018 bootmedia set to automatically Verify then Shutdown my computer.

Can I (hopefully) assume that the backup PASSED Verify if it goes on to Shutdown my computer?
(Otherwise how could I be notified of a Verify FAILURE?)

Thanks in advance!

Coyote, which version of the ATI 2018 Rescue Media are you using here?

My reason for asking is simply that I cannot find any option to do a shutdown after running a backup task when I tested this on my WinPE rescue media?  There is also no option to use Pre / Post Commands provided either that I could find, so capturing the task logs to check the results of tasks isn't possible via this method either.

Hi Steve, thank you very much for helping me for the millionth time!

It's what might be called a 'runtime' option (i.e. it's not listed in the Options screens, but it's a checkbox once the Operation begins).

The operation will be underway for about a dozen more hours...until then I'm hesitant to eject the CD to see the version # I wrote on the CD).

I hope the operation would stop upon a verify fail; to proceed to shutdown from an environment which could not notify the user would be crazy.

Ok, understand - I selected a small folder which ran very quickly so guess I didn't notice any option to shutdown.  You would need to be able to use a Post Command to confirm that the backup & validation was performed without any error but not seen any options for this!.

If you were to use the MVP WinPE version of the 2018 rescue media, it might be possible to run a background task to capture the log file produced by your task - this can be found in X:\ProgramData\Acronis\TrueImageHome\Logs - where X: is the default OS location for the boot media, but you would still need a method of checking that the backup / validation has finished then copy the log followed by issuing a shutdown command.

Steve, should I infer from your answer that you think the Shutdown will occur even if the Verify fails?

(If you're not certain of this, I could submit a Support ticket to confirm it.)

If so, I can stop checking this runtime option (I just un-checked it for the current operation), which would be easy but sadly leave my computer running all night wasting energy.

I love your ingenious suggestion, but I just don't have the time.

Not sure on the shutdown should an error occur, I would hope that the computer would 'stick' on the error message and not perform the shutdown but only Acronis can give a definitive answer short of generating a situation where an error occurs to test.

I'll ask them and report the answer.

Good news from Acronis Support that the functionality is as it should be:

"...if the backup fails or if there is any error on the disk, the backup will not complete and computer will not get shut down until you interact with the error message.

If the PC shutdowns normally after the backup, it means the backup completed successfully."

Thanks for the update / feedback - good to have some things confirmed!

Indeed.  Backups are too important to me to make an assumption about such a thing.
