No icon in system tray

Thread needs solution

ATI 2018 and Windows 10 15063.

When a backup is running there is no icon in the system tray to let me know this is happening. Without it I sometimes realise that I'm using the backup disk for some other function and that seems to screw up ATI.

So, is there any way to have an icon in the system tray so I can be aware that a backup is taking place, like Macrium Reflect for example?

I have looked in the list of tray icons but there are no ATI icons in the list. Active protection is on too, but no icon either.

Thanks.

TrueImageMonitor.exe should be running to have the tray icon. It should be started automatically unless you've turned it off. Check your list of Startup tasks. It's listed as Acronis True Image 2018.

Assuming Windows 10...

Settings->Personalization->Taskbar... look under the Notification area section and click on "Select which icons appear on the taskbar". See if it is turned off there.

That option controls whether the icon appears in the tray (taskbar) or in the notification area. But it only applies to icons that exist. My problem is that the icon no longer exists anywhere.

Stephen, have you checked these settings when an ATI backup task is actually running - the icon should only be present in those circumstances and not otherwise?

Yes. That's exactly what used to happen, but not now. I don't know if it disappeared when I applied the latest version of TI 2018 or after applying a Windows 10 update.

Stephen, the next suggestion here would be to try doing a Repair install of ATI 2018.  To do this, download the latest full 2018 installer from your Acronis account then install (from an Administrator account) over the top of the current software (without uninstalling).

If that still gives the same issue, then your options are to either open a Support Case direct with Acronis & let them investigate further, or else to do a Clean install of the product.

To do a Clean install, you should first use the new Settings option in the GUI to export your backup settings to a zip file, then do a normal uninstall of the application via the Control Panel > Programs & Features.  Follow this by downloading the Acronis Cleanup Tool (link in my signature) and run this as Administrator to clean any residue remaining.  Finally, restart the computer then reinstall from the full installer using an Administrator account then import your backup settings from the zip file.
Note: you will still need to do some reconfiguration for your tasks to check all is good and run them to start creating the activity history.

I thought I was on the latest version, but when I checked, I was on 10690 and the latest is 12510. I updated to 12510 and the icon is now back and working correctly.

Good to hear that this issue has been resolved - thanks for the update.
