Initial Backup Asks for Non Existent tib file

Thread needs solution

So I probably caused this issue somehow, but there must be a way to reset all:

I trialled Acronis True Image 2018 on a new PC. Did a full back up to a NAS, but did nothing else. Eventually some time after the trial had ended, I removed ATI 2018 and bought 2019 which I then installed. I also manually deleted (I think) the old .tib file from the NAS relating to the 2018 version. So thinking I was starting again, I created a new backup, setting it to back up to the same NAS, where there are now no old backups.

However, Acronis now asks for that old backup file, which ofcourse doesn't exist. It will not allow me to ignore, and only presents with "Retry" "Cancel" "Browse". The actual error says "Please close the application that may currently use the file [path to no existent files on NAS].

I can see its not a permission issue as the NAS shows the connection also.

Back in the 2014 days I could validate the backup and it would allow me to ignore certain versions. 2019 seems to have lost the abilibty to manually validate a backup(?)

Anyway, my question is, how do I get ATI 2019 to completley forget about old backups of the same volume?

I've tried a complete uninstall/reinstall, but there must be some settings that are retained I'm guessing.

I would suspect that when you did an uninstall / reinstall of ATI 2019, that you left behind the files in the C:\Program Data\Acronis\ folder path, where in the TrueImageHome\Database folder information is stored for your backup tasks.

I would further suspect that your new backup to the NAS is using the same name for the task as was used by the old task from the trial software, which would then be looking for files created by the old task.

One way to try to resolve this issue would be to stop all Acronis Services and end all Acronis processes (in that order) then to delete or rename the Database folder from the above path.  This will force a new Database folder and files to be created when ATI is relaunched.

I agree with Steve, rename the Database following his instructions.

Hi Steve,

As you were writing that I did that exact thing - but the same issue prevails. I also tried creating the backup again, with a different name. Still the same issue.

Ok, then the next suggestion here would be to do a full clean install of ATI 2019 as follows:

Uninstall ATI normally via the Control Panel.

Download the Acronis Cleanup Tool (link in my signature).  Run the tool as Administrator and follow the prompts offered, followed by doing a computer restart.

Note: the cleanup tool will remove Acronis True Image and Disk Director if found.  If you have both of these products and are going to reinstall, then install DD first before ATI as DD is an older product.

Reinstall ATI 2019 using the latest Update 1 full installer available in your Acronis account.

Thanks Steve and Enchantech

I did that, but also changed the credentials for the NAS, and removed the registry entries for it also. So far the backup is running successfully.

Fingers crossed it completes.

I still would like to know how to validate a backup manually though (I can see the option in the backup settings, but none to force it manually). Has that useful feature been removed? (I still use 2014 also, which has this functionality).

You can force a manual validation from Windows / File Explorer by right-clicking on any .TIB file then opening the True Image menu shown and taking the Validate option.

For any task shown in the ATI GUI - look for the v menu indicator to the right of the task name, click on this to open a drop-down menu of additional options, including Validation.
