TI 2019 -- Reserved copy incrementals are very large

Thread needs solution

Backup = Daily

Options = Full followed by 5 incrementals, followed by another set, retain 3 sets, make reserved copy, validation on.

Backup is from SSD to SSD, both internal. So it's *very fast. :) Reserved goes to a USB 3.0 gen1 drive.

Two questions:

1. The daily incrementals are, as expected, rather small in size. But the Reserved copies are all as big as the first full backup. Why is that? It could be very space intensive. No, it *will* be very space intensive. :)

2. A complement as much as a question ... As noted, the SSD to SSD backup is blazingly fast, even including validation. But ... the Reserved Copy seems to finish (on a Full backup going to an external USB gen1 device!) at the same time as the SSD to SSD backup. How is this even possible?

Yuki, reserve backup copies are always Full backups, there are no options to create incremental or differential reserve backup copies.

This is documented in the ATI 2019 User Guide as shown below:

Backup reserve copy

Location: Options > Advanced > Backup reserve copy

Backup reserve copy is an independent full backup version created immediately after a normal backup. Even when you create an incremental or differential backup version containing only data changes, the reserve copy will contain all the data selected for the normal backup. You can save reserve copies of your backups on the file system, a network drive, or a USB flash drive.
