The network path was not found

Thread needs solution

I keep getting this error "The network path was not found" when doing a differential backup. Nothing wrong with the network, nothing wrong with the media. Have 5 PCs (Windows 10 Pro Ver. 1803). Have Malwarebytes free and Bitdefender Total Security 2019. Backups started failing about 4 weeks back. Have no idea why as everything had been working for months. Here is a log:

I wonder if it is a problem with Bitdefender or Malwarbytes?

Alex, the log data shows that the backup was successful but an error occurred when attempting to validate the backup just created.

I would suggest trying to do a separate manual validation to see if this works?

Thanks for the response Steve. The validation seems to take ages now and the PC on the network that is used for the backup shuts down at midnight. This used to be plenty of time for backup and validation, but not any more. My question then is why is validation taking so long and can we speed it up?

Alex, if the PC is shutting down at midnight, then that probably explains the loss of the network path for the validation process, where the error messages are around the same time (12.01).

The time for validation really depends on the number and size of files involved in the backup version chain(s).  How many version chains are you keeping?  The log shows you are up to B24 and had created the S3 (second) Differential file for this 24th version chain.

One option here would be to separate the validation from the backup task, where on the Advanced Options page for the task settings, you can set a separate schedule for just doing validation.

Thanks Steve. I'll follow your advice
