Cannot reinstall Acronis Management Server

Thread needs solution

Hello,

I have ABR10 Advanced Workstation (Licensing, Console and management server) installed on a Windows Server 2003 R2 SP2 (64-bit) server. It had been running fine for about 6 months but recently I've had issues connecting to the management server.

What happens is when I open up the console and try to connect to the management server, I get a message that says "Cannot connect to xxx. The required service on remote machine not started. Start the service and retry the connection".

When I look at the "Acronis Management Server Service" on the management server, it is stopped. When I restart it, it stops after a short time (20 seconds?) but immediately if I try to access the management server.

I had ABR10 build 10.0.11639 but downloaded the latest and upgraded to 12497 to see if it would resolve the issue. But it did not and I still cannot connect to the management server.

I had some suggestions as to how to try to fix this but I was not able to get it to work. Therefore, I uninstalled Acronis Management Server, then tried to reinstall the Acronis Management Server.
However, I am not able to reinstall the Management Server. I get a "Cannot connect to the SQL server using the settings you have specified".

What do I need to do to get the Acronis Management Server installed back onto this server?

Thank you very much for your help.

This behavior is rather strange and not typical. Yet it can be caused by dozens of reasons, so this situation requires a closer investigation.

Please gather the following information:

  1. MSI log
  2. Event logs from the problem machine (Start -> Run -> Eventvwr.msc)
  3. Windows System Information

After that please kindly contact support directly with the information attached. Keep in mind that should there be any procrastination with the reply, you can always specify us the case number. We will do our best to speed up the process.

Yes, had this same issue. The Management server requires to log on as a Service. If this is failing on the client PC this is either because it's using the wrong account or it can't log on as a Service.

You need to tweak GPO and give the Managed Machine 'log on as service' rights. This should be done for the DC Policy and Domain Policy. Once sorted do a gpupdate /force. This should fix this problem as it did for me.

Hello Shane,

Thank you very much for your replies.

Is this Managed Machine a Acronis Windows service? If so, I do not see it in my list of services and have never seen it on this server.

I also had a Acronis Management Server service but it is now gone since I uninstalled the Acronis Management Server from this server. And, I'm trying to reinstall it but cannot.

Thank you for your help.
