USB Boot says Failed to check license key.

Thread needs solution

When making a USB bootable key with GRUB using:

menuentry "Acronis 2010" {     linux /boot/acronis2010/kernel.dat media_for_linux vga=0x314 ramdisk_size=70000 quiet     initrd /boot/acronis2010/agent_ramdisk.dat
}

Then the software tells me that it failed to check the license key and that it has been disabled, I used the files from your guide, http://www.acronis.com/r/support/en/kb/388/flash_syslinux.html

The bootable CD works and it seems other had that problem, http://forum.acronis.com/forum/3728

I don't know if this issue was resolved yet, any idea?

Hello Mathieu,

Thank you for posting and I would like to welcome you to our forum. I will definitely help you with this.

The reason for this issue is that the initial ramdisk.dat file taken from the Acronis directory does not have the program serial number. The serial number is accessed from Acronis Bootable Media creator and the newly created bootable files, such as ramdisk.dat have it.

I will send you a private message in a few minutes with the correct files, but as a workaround, in case there is no support available, you can create the bootable media and save it as an ISO file, then extract its components with any ISO extracting utility.

Please let me know if you have additional questions or any other issues.

Thank you.

Hi,

I have the same problem but I'm using it on PXE Boot. I don't use the Acronis PXE Server.

I tried to copy the agent_ramdisk.dat and the kernal.dat from the cd and from the server that have the licence "C:\Program Files (x86)\Common Files\Acronis\BackupAndRecoveryAgent" and I still got the same error message as him.

Do you think it's possible to send me the same file to correct the situation ?

Please note that I have Acronis Backup & Recovery 10 Advanced Server Virtual Edition.

I really don't know why the agent_ramdisk.dat don't have the licence key in a PXE Boot but he can find it on the cd ??? I'm sure it's a bug because I copied the file from the cd that was working fine.

Thanks for your help !

Hi Anton,

I can confirm you that everything is working fine with the files that you sent me in pm.

I hope you will correct the problem in a futur version :) and maybe add an option in the media builder in Acronis for custom pxe with
the correct files that we can use.

I'm sure the Acronis PXE server is working fine (I didn't test it) but in my case I have other products that I need to boot from PXE and I can't use the Acronis PXE Server.

I used only the kernel.dat and the ramdisk.dat file that you sent me. I didn't use the bootwiz.sys.

Thanks

Hi. I have the same problem with PXE server.

I created iso from Acronis Backup Manager Console. And get kernel and agent_ramdisk.dat from it. But then I try to restore or backup system get ms about disabled license key.

Thank you for help.

Add me to the list of users with this license key issue. Just downloaded the ISO from acronis.com, extracted to USB, booted and can't do anything :( Good thing this was a disaster recovery test, otherwise I'd be lynched by now.

label acronis10
menu label ^Acronis10
kernel pxe/acronis10/10/kernel.dat
append initrd=pxe/acronis10/10/agent_ramdisk.dat vga=791 ramdisk_size=32768 acpi=off quiet noapic

I have the same Problem with my Versions of Acronis Backup and Recovery Advanced Workstation with Universal Restore and Deduplication (German) and my Version of Acronis Disk Director 11 Home (German).

I want to boot this Tools from USB-Drive with GRUB2.
But both Tools says License are not present.

Can Anybody send my this files too?

Thanks Max

I am also getting the same thing. License server says I have 21 available. Have tried to copy out agent_ramdisk.dat from program files, and also using boot media wizard to make an .iso, then extract out the agent_ramdisk.dat with no difference.

Please Help!

Please add me to the list as well. Just upgraded to v10 and now cannot get PXE boot via pxelinux to work without license errors.

Hi,

I seem to be experiencing the same or at least a related probelem. I recently upgraded from an older Build to Build 12497 of Acronis B&R10. I extracted the kernel.dat and agent_ramdisk.dat files from the ISO I downloaded from your website and replaced the older kernel and ramdisk files on our PXE Server (Not Acronis-PXE just a normal pxelinux). It boots like it did before just fine, but when I try to restore data with it gives me an error message about a license check failure. Is there a way to get the newer build to work like the old one did?

I am using a German version of the programm in case thats relevant.

Hello Lars,

Thank you very much for posting and welcome to our forum. I will do my best to assist you.

I am sorry for the inconvenience, at the moment the most recent updated kernel.dat and ramdisk.dat files that are available are for build 11639, however, I have already sent a request to our Web team to provide us with the latest version.

As I mentioned in my original post, this issue can be resolved either by obtaining the boot files from Acronis Support or by extracting them from the created bootable media on the machine where ABR 10 is installed. Unfortunately, we recently discovered a known issue, where the latter fails to work because it has trial serial number in the bootable components also, making obtaining the bootable files from support the only available option at the moment.

I will do my best to expedite the resolution as well as provide you with the latest bootable components for build 12497.

If there is anything else I can do, please let me know.

Thank you.

Hi Anton,

I discovered also that with the files that you provided for the PXE Boot that the Universal Restore isn't activated. I can't use the Universal Restore. I don't have this problem with the boot cd.

Do you think it will be possible for you to send me the correct boot file with the Universal Restore activated ?

Thanks

Hello Yannick,

Thank you for getting back to me.

I am very sorry for this, but we do not have Acronis Universal Restore components at the moment. As I mentioned in my previous reply to Lars, I submitted a request to our Web team and I asked them to include Acronis Universal Restore in the files.

Please accept my apologies for the inconvenience.

If you need additional assistance, please let me know.

Thank you.

Hi Anton,

Thanks for your help. I will wait for the new build with the Universal Restore activated :) I can use the PXE Boot with the file that you provided without the Universal Restore for now. It isn't an emergencies for us but it's a must have :) We will use the Acronis Boot cd only when we will need the universal restore until the fix from you guys.

i tried to create bootable usb acronis backup & recovery 10 using syslinux, but i encountered error message "Failed to check license key. Key is disabled".

please help...thanks in advance

any help from the admin?

Hello all!

Thank you for your comments and requests.

Dear Michael, I will be glad to provide you with the fix, but for that I need to know your product license. Could you please specify it to me via Private message? As soon as I get this information, I will immediately send you the links.

Should you need anything else or have any further questions - feel free to contact us at your earliest convenience, we will be happy to help you!

Thank you!

I believe older versions work?

I am having the same issue with the PXE server using the kernel.dat and agent_ramdisk.dat files copied from the CD. Could I also get the links?

Dear Aviad, Peter and Linda!

Thank you for your comments!

Dear Aviad, I've replied to your message, but haven't heard from you since that time. I take it as a good sign (should there be any issues, you'd return), but I'd anyway appreciate if you could kindly update me regarding the issue state. It's important for us, and I'd like to be sure it's fxed for you, and you're all set.

Dear Linda, I'm will send you the link via Private message in a minute. Don't hesitate to let me know in case it's not working or you have any questions!

Thank you!

Yana, i have PMed you... i saied:
The actual problem was not that we can't restore... This problem was in the way of the real problem.
For the real problem we wanted to use the latest build, but with it were unable to restore.

We would like the ability to restore with a bootable media of the latest build.
Thank you.

I'm in the same boat as Linda (above) - took agent_ramdisk.dat and kernel.dat from the CD and put them on a PXE server; can boot from it, but it complains about not checking the key and thus won't function.

Hello Aviad and Robert,

Thank you for your posts and I will certainly help you.

Dear Aviad, we are currently working on this, please accept my apologies for the inconvenience and the delay.

Robert, I will send you a private message with the necessary files, please note that they are for the previous build of our software which is 11639, I apologize for this.

Please let me know if you have additional questions.

Thank you.

Hi,

I have the same problem as the others here. Am using the agent_ramdisk.dat and kernel.dat files from a bootable CD with my own PXE and get the license key error.

Could you PM me the updated files please.

Thanks

David

Hello Maria and David,

Thank you for your messages. I will certainly help you.

I will follow up in a few minutes with the necessary download links.

Please let me know if you have additional questions.

Thank you.

I received the files, but there is no option for me to use the Universal Restore function. Can I get the files which include this functionality?
