TI 10 stopped recognizing back-up locations
Hi Everyone,
For several years I have used TI 10 (4942) , on my Win XP Pro SP3 computer without a problem. Now when I attempt to perform a disk back up , I found that TI 10 no longer can "see" the Acronis_backup_place.cfg file in my back up partition. So I had to create a back up file name. And if I try a new full back up, TI 10 wants to "write over" the older disk back up. It won't "see" my J drive .
Also when I back up, I find , In Computer Management_Event Viewer_ Application Errors many errors saying the Acronis test program failed. But my TI 10 log shows no problems.
Any ideas on why TI 10 stopped recognizing the "Acronis_backup_place.cfg file" in my J partition .
Thanks.
.

I created a new backup .cfg file in my "J" Partition ( external HD ) , where I place my "C" drive backups.
And I created a new scheduled task which ran yesterday. The back up was successful , but TI 10 still didn't recognize the backup location. I had to use the feature to create a backup name ( My Backup.tib , My Backup(1).tib) before I could proceed.
I also configured Windows Explorer to open the " Acronis_backup_place.cfg" with Acronis True Image.
But TI 10 still didn't see the Acronis_backup_place.cfg file.
So I would like to ask a question : should I configure the "Acronis_backup_place.cfg" file to open with "Acronis True Image" or "Acronis True Image Monitor" ?
And my Acronis boot disc can still see and verify my back ups , so is it safe to assume that this problem won't affect restoring a image if need be ?
Thanks.

I belive the operative executable is trueimagehomeservice.exe however, I don't think that it has to be defined in windows as the program to use when opening a cfg file. without such definition, it should still work.
Just to confirm, ati used to see you J drive but now cannot see the drive at all?

I can't answer the problem you are having under Windows, but it is important that your rescue CD can as even if you start a restore from Windows the computer will reboot and run under the same Linux OS that is on the CD
To be sure that all is well you should carry out a restore to a spare drive, or if one is not available then start restore from the CD and go through all the screens until you get to one that says Proceed and Cancel, at this point cancel out all the way to the opening screen. This latter will enable you to have some confidence that a restore will work. The only sure way is to use a spare disk

I have never done a restore , but I have used the Acronis boot CD to verify a drive image back-up ".tib" file. And the verification , from the boot CD was successful.

This is not the same as checking all the way to the Proceed button
There have been some reports in the past that images verified from the CD cannot be restored. As I said before the only sure way is to carry out a restore to a spare disk
