Acronis won't backup over network

Thread needs solution

I am using Acronis True Image Home 2011 with a Windows 7 Ultimate 64 bit Laptop. The laptop is connected to a router and I can see my network drives and can transfer data in both directions. It follows that my network connections, firewall and credentials (User Name & Password & router setup) are correct otherwise bi-directional data transfer could not take place.

When I run Acronis and attempt to backup my Laptop hard drive to a network drive Acronis requests a location for the backup. Acronis allows me to search for and find my network drive. At this point I can see all of my network files. I accept the suggested name for the backup and I am then asked for a user name and password. After I provide the correct credentials (I use those described above that allow me to transfer data) there is a short delay before Acronis informs me "Connection failed". I am given no further information. This puzzles me because I DO HAVE a network connection and, using Windows Explorer, I can transfer data in either direction!

Can anyone please help me to resolve this problem?

I am delighted to report that I have resolved the problem using the method described below.

Microsoft Technet have informed me that I may now download Windows 7 SP1 RC. I have downloaded and installed the 64 bit version and now I can use Acronis True Image Home 2011 to backup my Laptop to a network drive. It follows that my reported problem must have been the result of a bug in Windows 7 which is now resolved in the Release Candidate version of Service Pack 1.

I hope that this information will assist others who experience the same problem.
