Can't select RAID0 Dynamic Disk as source - Acronis True Image Home 2011 Plus Pack

Thread needs solution

I am trying to clone a Windows 7 Dynamic Disk partition on a RAID0 array to a Windows 7 Basic Disk partition on a larger RAID0 array.

I cannot select the Dynamic Disk - it is grayed out in the Disk Clone user interface. I see the same behavior in Windows and when booting from Rescue Media.

I bought True Image Home 2011 and the Plus Pack specifically to do this because the Acronis web site seems to say it should. It does not seem to be possible from what I am experiencing. Please let me know if there is a way to get this to work or if any other information is needed for troubleshooting.

Thanks,
Tony

Did you read the user guide?

> The current Acronis True Image Home 2011 version does not support *cloning* of dynamic and GPT disks

You have to perform backup and then restore (it is supported for dynamic volumes). If the source drive has enough free space, put the archive there. If not, create two partitions on the target drive, first for the destination and the second for archive storage, perform backup, then restore it on the first partition. Then you can delete the second partition (with archive) and use windows 7 disk management to resize the first partition to the whole disk.

p.s. Web site says "Back up and restore dynamic volumes easily" - not a single word about cloning.

Thanks for the clarification on clone vs. backup/restore. Following your procedure, I was able to accomplish the task. Thanks!
