Error: The Operation is Not Supported - Reason May Be Poor Media Quality?

Thread needs solution

I'm using True Image 2018 and trying to recover files from a files_full backup, to a different location, on a new PC.  OS is Win10 Pro, 64 bit.

I get an Event Code, and when i search for it, i get nothing.  Attached is a snip of the error message.

When i click 'Cancel', i get an error message: "Cannot find version My Files_full_b1_s1_v1.tib."  I can search and find the ..tib file on my Seagate external drive.  I'm trying to "recover" it now.

The folders that i was trying to recover are being recovered, but each filename is appended, like this: IMG_5111.JPG~FU79UC2F.  And a duplicate of that file, named IMG_5111-1.JPG~RML9SEML.

Any ideas on my issue?

Aaron, welcome to these public User Forums.

The filenames you have listed which have the tilde ~ character with the file extension are purely incomplete temporary files that Acronis will consolidate and then remove the temporary versions when the recovery operation is complete.

Difficult to say why the error message about poor media quality / operation not supported is being given without more information such as the full log for the recovery task?

Doing a Validation for the backup .tib file should give an indication of the integrity of the file.

I get the "Error occurred while reading the file" message.  I've attached it.  It's a bummer, I upgraded the OEM software, had a headache reinstalling it on a new PC, and now the file(s) i have in my backup aren't any good?

I have incremental backups, can i use them?  I have a full backup done on 4/4/2018, and incrementals done in June and July.

Any other ideas?

When i click retry on the error message, it tells me it cant' find version My files...

I find the full...tib, and click "Add".  And now it continues validating.  I guess we'll see where this goes.

Aaron, instead of using the Recover option in the ATI GUI, try double-clicking on your most recent incremental file for your backup in File Explorer and check that you can open / browse the internal structure?  If you can, then try using that method to copy / paste the files to your new location.
