Cannot restore from image to new drive.
I bought a new ssd to replace a conventional drive. I created an image of the drive to a second local drive. I replaced the old drive with the ssd (sata), booted from Acronis boot media and tried to restore the drive. I added the drive in Add new drive and then:
1. I chose recover whole disk, and browsed to the backup file.
2.Marked all partitions. (pic 1)
3.Now I get a screen to specify recover settings for partition (pic 2)
4. I have to choose a new location and I chose the unallocated drive (pic3)
5. Next I have to specify new location for the second partition (pic4), but the new drive is grayed out and I can't continue (pic 5).
Does anyone know what I should do?
Thanks

The reason I did that was because I did not want to include a large data partition, only the OS partition and hidden partition in the backup. Is that not not possible with TI ?
As you can see in Pic1 I did choose the entire disk 1 during recovery, but the items on the left appeared automatically (the partiton settings).

Hi Eran,
What you want to do makes sense. However, I got completely confused by the screenshots - they were not what I would have expected and this suggest there is something odd going on. If you cannot work out how to do it successfully there is a work-around. If you have a spare disk recover the data partition to that disk. Then delete the partition from the disk you are wishing to "migrate", do a new backup up then recover to the new SSD. It is a little time consuming but may be the quickest way to overcome the problem you are having.

An alternative to Ian's suggestion above is to not include the unwanted data partition in your backup image you will be using to recover to the new drive. That way, you should be able to recover the whole backup image at a disk level without needing to worry about having to resize manually etc.

@ Steve
That is exactly what I did. I made a backup of the os partition and two hidden system partitions, plus the mbr. When I restored , I Chose the whole disk, and that is what I got.
Unfortunately I had to resort to reinstalling Windows and all programs, as I could not wait any longer. Very dissapointing and concerning experience. It means I can no longer trust True Image as a reliable backup program for mission critical PCs. I can no longer recommend it to others as well.

@Ian
The data partition was 1.5Tb, I do not have a spare disk to copy it too. It also defeats the purpose of a backup software.
I have seen other posts of people getting a simillar situation.
what is concerning is that there is no explanation.

This is definitely very odd. Should not happen.
Have you tried attaching the new drive to a different port? Not sure why it should make any difference but it is possible that there is a problem with the particular port being used. Another possibility is that there is a problem with the connecting cable - swap it if you have a spare.
I am running out of ideas.
