How to clone/migrate O/S system disk sata ssd over too a new NVME M2 SSD without data loss

Thread needs solution

Ok, Following your step by step instructions  setting up the bios

1 DONE,

2 DONE

GO BACK 1 SCREEN,  device config menu: set sata mode config to sataexpress, no such option exists in this menu ???

Here is my motherboards manual

E10343_MAXIMUS_VIII_HERO_UM_WEB.pdf

In your bios in Advanced Setup.  Click the Advanced tab then, PCH Storage Configuration

  1. Verify SATA controller is set to - Enabled
  2. Set SATA Mode to - RAID

Go back one screen then, select Onboard Device Configuration.

  1. Set SATA Mode Configuration to -  SATA Express

Option doesn't exist in that menu ???

Asus Maximus Hero VIII motherboard Manual

Can't post with an external link  to my motherboard's manual i just won't add my post no notification is given or anything this moderation is nonsense it is stifling the purpose of this forum

Why is it if i post a link a harmless safe link that points towards my motherboard manual, so to enable others to better help me do my posts get qued for days So i can't get my request for help out on the forum?

This doesn't only stop spam or whatever the reason for it was implemented, but it also  impacts negatively on legit users  rendering the forum somewhat useless if you are needing help, this needs to be addressed

So because i cannot post a link  Asus Maximus HERO VIII motherboard  manual should help others give me the correct help re the bios options and menus

Dave, if your web links are not being shown or are being delayed, then just post them as plain text instead of using the link tool, i.e. Manual link at  [https://] www.asus.com/us/ROG-Republic-Of-Gamers/MAXIMUS-VIII-HERO/HelpDesk_Manua…

I tried but it would not give me an option to paste as text, It would create a link, even without clicking on the add link button, weird, this time i think it has worked, My entire posts were being put in a que for moderation, not the links being removed.

I suspect that some of the data you have been attempting to paste has included html formatting codes.  If you switch to the Source view and try again, it should show you if this is so, i.e. if the source shows < "a href=" before the link text, then this is the html code used to create a link.

I will try and remember that in future ,thanks for the tip

I know one thing i want this process done, as i have an SSD temporarily connected  with the backup image on it  with the side panel off the case, with the hhd that used that sata lead and power disconnected,

my bios is back as the defaults after using CMOS to clear the config  that i made that rendered it without video output  /signal to the monitor  (Q code A9) without the USB stick in nothing with it in,as i hard powered the system off  to watch the q code and other board diag led's as it posted , I don't see any point in  restoring my original bios settings until i have the 970 booting my os, and tbh I'm having serious doubts that i will be able to achieve this with ATI ect, maybe macrium is a better bet?

I just don't understand why it has developed into such a complex issue and the bios once set to boot to the usb flash drive  in uefi mode does not just work?

in theory that should then just load up Acronis and i should be able to see the disk with the image on it and the destination disk and restore it,without issues , then shut down, remove the flash drive  go into bios set to boot the 970 1st in UEFI bios mode,

Dave,

In regards to your problem booting the WinPE, it is most likely a Graphics issue.  WinPE has limited graphics adapter support and the popular gaming adapters out there are simply not fully supported.  This will be true with any WinPE media you build.  This can be corrected by switching to your onboard graphics which you can do in the Advanced Mode of your bios under the tools menu and connecting your monitor cable to the mobo graphics output.

Check your PM's

Mustang and  Enchantech you both have P.M's  Well know it isn't the GPU and we know it isn't the VGA drivers I have also tested with out them bing injected  So could the samsung driver, or the different than the stock version of the IRST driver be causing the issue ? Should i start a fresh, using the supplied default drivers?

Failing that what about using the PE recovery options  within acronis tI 2019 add in the drivers to that, (not sure of how that works ) ??  because so far what i have done hasn't been a success , surely this shouldn't be so problematic?

Ok, I finally with lots of help from the guys on this forum Have a working WIN7 image on the NVME ,but i realise one issue ,it is no longer activated,  did not selecting the old disk signature cause this?

In all likelihood yes.

So it when selected will mask the change of hardware HDD? is that what it is for?

I believe it gives it a new disk signature.  Worse case, you should be able to call Microsoft's hotline and activate it over the phone pretty easy (as long as you have the key).

If you need the installed key, you can get it from a nifty tool called Belarc Advisor.

https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/help/15083/windows-activate-windows…

So i would presumably need to speak with a human, as there is no procedure for activation via the phone, should they  be unco operative (as they want win 7 gone) as it's a OEM version, or i maybe able to find a cheap licence key for it, that would be another option i suppose

It's an electronic phone system (no human).  I've never had an issue reactivating with a legitimate license using this method.  If you do end up talking to a human (again, I've never had to), just explain it's the same computer and motherboard, but you restored a backup image to a new hard drive due to an old hard drive failure and it it did not license correctly as a result.

I vaguely recall having to activate a WIN XP system over the phone, and it wasn't a strightforwards as entering the product key, you had to enter some code gennerated by the o/s  or enter code given by the automatated system  or something like that

Here are the only activation options i'm given  the ms support is just links and no phone numbers ect, found this https://www.google.com/search?q=win+7+telephone+activation&client=firefox-b&tbm=isch&source=iu&ictx=1&fir=-fgnmly_Pay-cM%253A%252C-Q6lgDRmR44uZM%252C_&usg=AI4_-kTDwXZqcYuOnkI5wR3NnZxevh1sbw&sa=X&ved=2ahUKEwiUk-6Sxp3fAhWFc98KHY9OAiEQ9QEwHXoECAIQBg#imgrc=-fgnmly_Pay-cM:
