Acronis 2019 Scheduled Jobs Keeps Turning Computer On
The problems starts with a computer that turns itself on at the same time every day -10:59am....
I recently installed Acronis True Image 2019. I did not realize the backup job was set up for "Scheduled." Each morning, at 11:00am, my computer would turn itself ON. After many hours of debugging, that is when I noticed the Scheduler was set to Weekly and the only day was Saturday. In the Advanced setting, I see an option for "Wake up the sleeping/hibernating computer." But to me, that is NOT the same as a compute that has been Shut Down. And even though the option was for Weekly and Saturday, the computer kept turning on EVERY day at the hour specified in the schedule.
And how did we discover what was happening? Running the CMD prompt as an administrator, you type "powercfg timers" .... and there is was, a message saying Acronis is running at 10:59am.
So it looks like if Acronis does not run a job on the day and time specified, it will turn the computer on EVERY DAY at the same time and try to run the job!
No more scheduled jobs for me. I would prefer to shut down my computer and kick off manual backups.

Thank you Steve....
My Dell laptop has Windows 7. The bios has a setting for fast start but it is set to minimal. There is no on or off setting. I am now questioning if this is an Acronis problem or if this is something up with Windows or an application. To rule out Acronis, I have uninstalled it and use the cleaner to try and remove all remnants. If the computer continues to turn on at the same time, I will then know it is due to some other problem.

I want to close the loop on this case... so here it is, to the best of my knowledge of the incident and the current state.
As I originally reported, my laptop was turning on at the same time each day. I searched all the scheduled tasks, programs, etc, and could only find one thing that in my mind, was the culprit - the Acronis scheduled backup. Even though I removed the schedule and was running the backups myself, the laptop continued to turn on at 10:59am - the same time the backup was scheduled to run. I looked high and low, could not find any other reason for the auto turn on.
I came across something that suggested there could be a stray command (I call these ghost commands) that are somehow remembered by a computer. Perhaps changing the scheduled job in Acronis did not remove the task from some deep dark memory location within the computer. So I reset the BIOS (even though there was nothing there that could be the culprit) and removed the CMOS battery (as a means of resetting the CMOS) for 5 minutes. I then reinserted the battery and on the next start up, there was a message for me to go into the Setup to set the date, time, etc. So I know the CMOS was now repopulating itself.
And the next day and time in question, the computer DID NOT turn on, and it has not turned on for 1 week now. So perhaps that was the solution (among other things I checked, reset, etc).
So if anyone else stumbles across this post and has a similar problem, try resetting the CMOS memory.
Thanks Steve....

Tom, thanks for the comprehensive update. It reminds me that I used to use the options in the BIOS of an older computer to power it on at a set time though the reason why eludes me now! Glad that the issue is gone away!
