Create a new full backup after X differential backups
Hello,
I am using ATIH 10.0 build 4942 on XPSP3.
The help file for this software says: "Create differential backups - having chosen this parameter, check the Create a new full backup after ... parameter and specify number of differential backups, after which a new full backup will be created. The first time a full backup will be created. Next backups will be differential until the specified number of differential backups is reached. Then, again a full backup and a set of subsequent differential backups is created, then again a full backup and so on."
However, when I select the differential backup option, there is no check box for "Create a new full backup after ... parameter". This is an option I would like to use so why is it not there when help says it is?
Thanks,
Bob

In TI 10, you need to create a Backup Location. Then you have to select the Backup Location as the destination for the back up task (don't just select the folder). More information can be found in Chapter 7 of the User's Manual.

Hello,
I have done as you say above but the feature is still not available. I purchased the software online so I do not have a manual. Can you suggest anything else?
Thank you,
Bob

1. A small help file is included inside the software--both inside the Windows version as well as the standalone Rescue CD.
2. You can download a large size pdf which has quite a bit of information about the use of this software and your issue. Have you looked at the options inside the Schedule module.
Click on the highlighted link below inside my signature and click on item 1-E. While you are inside the index, look at some of the other offerings such as #2 and #7.
3. If you have not registered your software, you should do so. Links inside the index will tell you more.
4. If you have not created a standalone Rescue CD, do it now from inside the installed program.

Bob,
The manuals can be downloaded from the Home Products Guides link on the left of the forum pages.
Here is the direct link to the TI 10 manual.
The trick is that you must use a Backup Location as the destination and you must create a task for the backup. You can't run a manual backup and select those options. They are only available when setting up a task that saves the backup to a Backup Location.

OK, where you wrote "Backup location" I had no idea you were referring to what Acronis considers a backup location. I thought you were simply referring to whatever backup location I chose to use, be it an external drive, CD, etc. When you wrote don't just select the folder, in your original comment, I thought you meant the backup file had to already exist and then one has to select that file. So I looked at Chapter 7 of the manual after I downloaded it (Thank you for the link :-))and the second paragraph says refer to Chapter 3.5, where it tells one: "When creating a backup task, be sure to select the backup location from the Backup Locations list, near the top of the directory tree. Doing so will enable the above processing of backups. If you select a backup location as a normal folder, the processing will not be performed."
So, I created backup locations in acronis and then followed the above and the feature presented. A convoluted process, but it worked.
