Backup schedule not performing full backups

Thread needs solution

I have a weekly backup schedule for my data disks, that is configured to perform a full backup after every 12 incrementals (keeping no more than 3 chains).  However, the current backup chain is now 23 incrementals long.

This backup spec was originally configured to perform a full after every 10 incrementals and keeping 4 chains, but my backup destination ran out of space, so I changed the spec to the current 12 incrementals and 3 chains.  There have been no full backups performed since I had the space issue and changed the backup spec.

How do I get my backup schedule back to performing incrementals at the correct frequency?

(I have another weekly schedule for my system disk that performs a full after 6 incrementals and deletes chains after 183 days, and it does not have a problem)

John

John, welcome to these public User Forums.

Unfortunately there is a unpublished side-effect when changing the backup retention rules for a task, in that this has the effect of resetting the count of files and starting over as if from 1, so this should sort itself out if you have sufficient free space for the extra incremental files.

The alternative here is to use the 'Clone settings' option for your task when needing to make this type of change, then remove the original task settings from the GUI and continue with the cloned task.

Ok, thanks for that.

Well then, sounds like I should "tweak" my schedule to have 0 incrementals between fulls, then run  a backup, and then reset it to the incremental schedule I desire.

I will give that a go.
