Looks like there is no free space for snapshot temporary file (C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Acronis\BackupAndRecovery\MMS\Temp\acr5023.tmp). Or it is the issue fixed by IRPStackSize value.

Issue still not resolved......I set IRStackSize to 50 and reboot, tried to launch backup again and same results. This backup worked on the previous server - did a restore to dissimilar hardware, and the backup has not run since. I did completely uninstall and reinstall ABR10, to ensure the app didn't have a problem. Same results.

Hello Anthony and dev-anon,

Thank you for your comments.

Dev-anon, thank you for your help!

Anthony, in case IRStackSize is not the cause, then probably there's a glitch in the SnapAPI drivers, that are responsible for snapshot creation and accessing the drives, or the lack of space.

Once a snapshot is created, Acronis Backup & Recovery 10 creates a temporary file in the %TEMP% folder of a user, under which a backup plan/policy is running. By default, the full path is:

  • Windows 2000/XP/2003: \Documents and Settings\%username%\Local Settings\Temp
  • Windows Vista/7/2008/2008 R2: \Users\%username%\AppData\Local\Temp

The name of the file is random, but is similar to acr74BD.tmp.

The size of this temporary file by default is exactly 20% of the free space of the partition where the temporary folder is. You can try changing the defailt size or path of the file to make sure that the file's on the drive with enough space on it. Please follow these instructions and see whether the issue remains.

I will also send you the link to the SnapAPI update via Private message in a minute. Please run the SnapAPI update on the problem machine, and see whether the issue is present.

Should it reoccur, please gather Acronis Info from the problem machine and submit a support request with the information attached. Keep in mind that should there be any procrastination with the reply, you can always specify us the case number. We will do our best to speed up the process.

Should you need anything else or have any further questions - feel free to contact us at your earliest convenience, we will be happy to help you!

Thank you!

Applied the update and still same results.... then started digging deeper and found that C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Acronis\BackupAndRecovery\MMS\Temp is where it was attempting to write and the admin account only had READ & WRITE (no inherited persmissions). Backed up to the MSS level and assigned FULL CONTROL to the admin account and allowed inherited permissions. Backup is now running. This was a fresh ABR install, so I am not sure why there were these permissions applied at that level.

Manual job completed. Next scheduled job failed again with same "failed" output as above. We have 10 installations and this is the only having this issue. This is our disaster recovery tool (ABR 10 w/ Universal Restore) and need to be able to reply upon it's functionality.

Hello Anthony,

Thank you very much for the follow-up.

Just in case, would you mind going through this recently updated KB article called - Acronis Backup Software: "Failed to create volume snapshot" and try the solutions posted there. If none of them help, please submit a support request with this report so that we can investigate and resolve this problem.

Let me know if you have additional questions please.

Thank you.
