Acronis Migrate Won't Migrate

Thread needs solution

I have been trying to get Acronis Migrate 7.0 Build 645 to mak a clone of my C drive. I set it all up and have it delete the destination data on my 1TB external USB hard disk. I reboot, but the system comes back up to the desktop and it is locked up tight. Task Manager won't even start. I eventually have to do a hard reset to get my system back.

When I look at the external hard drive, nothing has changed. I have Windows 7 Pro 64bit installed, and it was a clean install. Is anybody else having this problem?

Hello Tom Burke,

Thank you very much for your post. Please accept my sincerest apologies for the delay, but I would like to assure you, that I will definitely assist you in resolving the issue.

Unfortunately, Migrate Easy 7.0 does not support Windows 7. Even if it was installed on your operating system without any problems, Acronis cannot guarantee its functionality. For example, if you launch our software in compatibility mode, the drivers in our software to access your hard drives may fail to work properly.

You can check Windows 7 support in Acronis software in the following KB article.

However, from the symptoms that you have described to me, it seems that there is some sort of a USB device attached to your computer, besides that 1TB external USB hard disk. Temporarily detach any USB storage device that is plugged in. Perform the cloning with the USB storage device detached. If you have an inbuilt card reader, then disable it through Windows Device Manager or BIOS.

You can use the Migrate Easy Rescue Media builder to create a bootable disk so that you can perform this operation outside of Windows environment.

Please let me know if you have any other questions or issues that I can assist you with.

I am tring to do somewhat the same thing. I have Windows 7 and am trying to migrate my system to an external HD and use it as a back up incase I have another crash. I was able to recover my system from the bootable disc and copy the external drive onto the new internal HD on my laptop. Only issue there is that it was windows Vista and I had to put Windows 7 back on laptop. In short, how do I copy windows 7 onto the external HD. I keep having issues with system not booting into Acrinis Migrate as I have in been able to do in the past with Vista. Is there a way around the Windows 7 issue?
