Disk Director 12 - boot CD failure

Thread needs solution

I am setting up Windows 10 Home (as a second boot partition) on a Samsung 840 SSD for a Dell XPS 8700 computer. It is currently running Windows 7 Home on a Samsung 850 SSD.

When I try to boot into Disk Director 12 from the CD that I created, it hangs after about a minute. I see lots of text on the screen, but it doesn't really mean anything to me. Sometimes it shows different messages. I can get my camera and take a picture or two ...

Hello Rick,

I'd recommend using a WinPE-based bootable media, as it supports a wider range of hardware configurations and helps in many cases, when a Linux-based one with limited driver support doesn't boot.

The reason for the Linux-based rescue media not being able to boot is likely the lack of RAID drivers. Many Dells have the SATA Storage Controller Mode set be default to RAID instead of AHCI

I've also found some forum discussions that might be helpful for you

Is it possible to use two backup (Windows 7 and Windows 10) of the same PC and build a Dual boot PC
Dual Boot System

Hope this helps

Thank you for the response!

I will read through those articles, and create a WinPE boot CD.

I just realized that I was using version 11 of Disk Director. I just purchased Disk Director 12 today to create the Win PE boot media.

So far I have been unable to install it. I keep getting an error message from Acronis OS selector (which I did NOT install):

E000101F4: Acronis OS Selector has not found any hard disk drives.

Hi Rick, try to apply recommendations from https://forum.acronis.com/comment/457826#comment-457826

I tried following those suggestions a few days ago, and it screwed up my software configuration - I could no longer run Acronis Disk Director. I had to restore last week's Acronis image backup.

I will try again ...

This time, I decided not to use Control Panel to uninstall Disk Director 11. I assumed that the initial unsuccessful uninstall attempt adversely affected the other steps I tried a few weeks ago.

I downloaded the Microsoft FixIt (file name: MicrosoftProgram_Install_and_Uninstall.meta.diagcab). When I ran it, it found the registry information for Disk Director 11, and the uninstall was successful. Then I was able to install Disk Director 12.5 with no issues.
