Moving a full backup to a different drive

Thread needs solution

Is is it more likely to encounter any problems when restoring one full backup file that has been moved or copied from its original place (an external HD) to a different external hard drive?

I'm thinking specifically about any possible troubles with the Bootable Media created when the file was located in the first hard drive. In other words, can I safely move my backup files from one drive to another without running into additional restore issues?

Thanks in advance for help provided.

Before deleting the orignal and after copyinig the complete chain to a new location, then boot from the Rescue CD of the version which created the file and see if validation is confirmed. If validation successful, the copy process worked without issues. Then and only then should the original be deleted and the delete should occur from within TrueImage.

I own True image home 10.0.

I had an older PC running XP.

Bouht a new PC running 7Pro with XP option

Backed up old PC. Installed software on new to try restore on new.

PC told me Acronis is not compatible, Ran an update. Still does not work.

What to do?

Thanks for your help, Grover. Please forgive my ignorance, but I still have two questions:
What exactly is it that shows me the validation is confirmed?
And also, how do I delete a backup file from within TrueImage?
Thanks again.

As to whether it is properly validated, there is nothing specific but its success is implied. Assuming that validation is either part of the backup task or as a single validation task, either way, the message box comes on the screen with the successful message. Likewise, the log file for that specific time functions has as its last line.

event id="31" level="2" module="1" code="504" time="1290423100" message="Pending operation 3 started: 'Validate Backup Archive'."
event id="32" level="2" module="316" code="6" time="1290423783" message="Operation has succeeded."

As to the delete question, reading the help section, only deletes done within the program will be tracked by the program.

help section wrote:

When using the delete function from within the MyBackups-operations function, the delete option will delete ALL backup files associated with that task or chain.

Deleting backups and backup versions
You may want to delete backups and backup versions you no longer need. Acronis True Image Home 2011 stores information on the backups in a metadata information database.

Therefore, deleting unneeded backup files by using Windows Explorer will not delete information about these backups from the database, and Acronis True Image Home 2011 will consider that they still exist.

This will result in errors when the program tries to perform operations on the backups that no longer exist. So you must only remove obsolete backups and backup versions by using the tools provided by Acronis True Image Home 2011.

To delete an entire backup:

On the main screen, find the corresponding backup box, click Operations, and then click Delete backup.

When you delete an entire backup, all its versions will be deleted as well.

To delete a specific backup version:

On the main screen, find the corresponding backup box, click Explore and recover or Explore all versions.
In Backup explorer, right-click the version you want to delete, and then click Delete version.
When you delete a backup version, please remember that this version may have dependent versions. In this case the dependent versions will be deleted as well, because data recovery from such versions becomes impossible.

If you delete a full backup version - the program will also delete all subsequent incremental and differential versions till the next full version.
If you delete an incremental backup version or a differential backup version - the program will also delete all subsequent incremental versions till the next full or differential version.

Of course, when all else fails, we can delete manually using Windows Explorer.
