Acronis Backup 12.5 - Default to 11.x TIB format

We have a issue with 12.x Acronis Workstation backup where we're no longer able to maintain the older TIB backup format with fixed backup file pieces for more than one weekly backup set.
I would like to know if anyone has had any luck with disabling the 12.x format and/or setting ABR 12.5 to default to the 11.x format.
PS.. Hopefully this post makes sence - I've been up since 5 AM and its now 11:40 pm - Waiting on some failed TIBx backup file copy failures to re-copy :-(

Details
We use Acronis (11.7) for workstation backups to a server with each workstation having its own Live server folder.
I recently upgraded one machine to 12.5 (Build: 9010)
First backup is a Nightly Full Image backup, followed on-going Nightly incremental backup. The backups are setup to use max file piece sizes of 1 GIG. (IE. 100G data backup equals about 50 backup Pieces)
Each morning, a server script runs to copy the most recent workstation backups to a External Drive from each of the Live workstation backup folders. This keeps the backup in 2 spots, and allows us to rotated backup drives offline.
The initial backup copy (Tueday/Saturday morning) to the External Drive take a bit longer; but the ones after this only copy the recent changes which are usually relatively quick.
On Fridays, 1 of 8 external drive are rotated (Original taken offline, and new one brought online)
On Saturdays the copy script runs to catchup all the current weeks backup to the Recent Friday Rotated backup drive
Then after the Saturday copy, another script runs, which renames each workstation backup set (on the live online storage and external backup drive) to include a date in front of each file name, and then moves each backup to a .\Previous sub folder folder. The XML file (associated with the backup) is also renamed - this was done as if the XML file is present, then the next week backup wont start as it think there is a corrupt backup.
2 "Previous" copies are kept online on the Live server, and 2 are kept on each backup Drive (basiclly 2 weeks backups * 8 backup drives for a total of 16 weeks of recovery availability for each workstation). Note: 7 of the 8 backups are stored in a fireproof safe)
But there are issues with the machine (with ABR 12.5 backup installed) in-which after the first weeks backup, the backup format reverts backup to a single TIBx format, so instead of copying just changed incremental parts, the single TIBx is re-copied every night. This will causes a lot of extra load on the server (by weeks end, the overall backup set is about 500G) as there's no way to identify the incrementals from the data already copied. Additionally having smaller file chunks allows for better recovery when copying backups, as if you run out of space on the backup drive, then you have less data to catchup as alot more smaller pieces would be already copied verses failing completely on a single large TIBX file.

Sorry.. Didn't see your reply until now.
I have been running a externally scripted “Not provided by Acronis” automatic swap/rotate method with Acronis since 2005, which worked flawlessly up until version 12.....
It still works; but just isn't optimized. Due to the self contained single file format of version 12, my nightly copy (to External USB Drive) has to re-copy “Already copied data” up-to 5 times as the initial full backup and incremental are self contained within a single TIBx version 12 backup file. Under version 11 file format, only new pieces were copied as they were separate files.
So on Tuesday morning, all initial full image backups would be copied to external backup drive (1-2 TB of data at about 5 hours), then on Wednesday thru Saturday morning, all incremental backups are copied to external backup drive (around 50 G at about 8 mins).
Acronis has always provided the ability to external management the backup TIB files and as far as I've seen Version 12 still allows this. This makes the lack of a “required usable feature”, just a issue to be solved and not a reason to dump the software for something else. Note: I have purchased over 50 Acronis backup licenses (at different version levels) which I've often had to tweak due to Acronis limitations/issues such as Acronis timing issues with SSD on startup, Active backup running during machine shutdown, Lack of proper post backup shutdown functionality from within Acronis, passwords to network shares not being passed to pre/post command scripts, etc).
So my issue is with version 12 file format being toggled back on after a backup job is INTENTIONALLY set to version 11 (and also hiding of the option to set backup piece size which is still present in the XML file). This is is intentional decision by Acronis to ham string the software, which could easily be fixed by including a “Always use version 11” in the list of selectable backup formats. IE you'd have something like this for file format selection:
- Use Version 12
- Use Version 11, but default to 12 if no initial version 11 backup exists (*This is the issue**)
- Always use version 11 (*Suggested Feature change*)
I was hoping someone else already had a similar issue and had already worked out a fix, or the Acronis dev team reads these forums, and would consider fixing the issue.
As it stands, I may have a solution where I save off a virgin tweaked 11 version XML file, which after rotating the backups; copy back in to fool Acronis into thinking there is a still a active version 11 file. I'm still testing so unsure if this will work..

You can set the desired file format in Default backup options as it is shown on the picture below.
As for support rotating (swapping) USB disks feature, please note that there is such implementation task registered in our system.

I have set the default to file version 11 (also attempted inside the backup job); but as initially mentioned in my post, is that when a new full backup is run (into a empty folder), Acronis switches automaticly to version 12 no matter what version you specify.
Per your above screen shot: A legacy format to be used in a new backup plan that appends backups to the ones created by earlier product versions. I think the key is that it Appends as version 11 only if there is an existing version 11 backup.
Per the rotation, it is done by scripts written by me outside of Acronis which as far as I'm aware has been officially supported as of 11.x
I'm currently running Acronis 12.5 on one machine, with rest running Acronis 11.7
Under Acronis 11.7, it allows you to control the file name (which seems to be the standard in version 12), and specifically states "You will be able to move or backup the files and use scripts to manage them"
Note: The scripts work fine with Acronis version 12.5, is just the version 12 file format is not optimized for mirroring the backups to a secondary backup source (25 hours of copy time verses under 6 over the week)
It honestly looks like Acronis is forcing the use of version 12 file format.
I don't believe there is a cookie cut solution other than Acronis actively fixing the setting of Backup format version, or some external tweak relating to .XML backup file.

Update:
I stand corrected
Think I figured the issue out. Issue is most likely relating to Schedule option of "Always Incremental (single-file)"
Tweaked it to a custom backup scheme where a full done once a year, and incremental done m-f.
Also split option is available now.
Running a test now, and it looks like its working as required.
Note: Full set backup set to last day in Dec, as my weekly rotate scripts, date and move the existing weeks backups into a .\Previous folder. So when the next incremental runs on Monday, it should automatically be a full backup

One more thing.
Even though file type version 11 is selected, the file type on backups is still showing as TIBx (ver 12)
Not sure if the file format is actually 11.x (as configured); but I can work with the TIBx format
Anyhow, the backup completed successfully with split out
Will provide some additional feed back once my auto rotations scripts run on Saturday (for anyone who's interested :-)

I can confirm that my automated external management of Acronis backup files still works in Acronis Workstation 12.5
Some strangeness/Differences noted (from 11.7) including
- Incrementals get appended to last backup file piece, vrs creating new part (to use max file split size?)
- Sometimes Acronis tweaks/Modifies older files during incremental backups
- Performance seems faster, with better compression
- TIBX file extention used even though 11 backup format selected
- Acronis Backup lock file sometimes present for hours after backup has completed
- Verify sometimes fails after backup (What NO WAY TO RE-RUN Verify? )
Note:
-
E: (live backups where workstations backups are initially written to during backup)

External U: drive where the backups are copied to nightly
- The management of TIBx files is performed by cmd scripts (automated)
- U: drive is swapped/rotated weekly (a total of 8 Drives. 1 active, 7 inactive)
- Each workstation backup has its own folder with a backup user created for each folder (isolate backups between users)
- Workstation backups are staggered between 8 pm and 1 am M-S
- Backup copies to U: occur at 4 am nightly
- On Saturday, Current weeks backups are renamed with Y-M-D in front of file name and then moved to Previous folder (Acronis generates new Full backup when backups no longer present)
- Current, and last week are kept on line on E:
- 2 weeks are kept on each backup drive (8X2=16 weeks of recovery)
- Copying backups to external drive nightly, allows external drive to be attached quickly to a workstation for quicker (sometimes) recovery using boot disk over recovery from network share.
