Acronis True Image Home 2011 - How can I force validation?

Thread needs solution

I right click on a tib file and want to validated it. On some it works on many not. Where it does not work it does not start the validation at all and does not show any message.
What can I do to validate those backups?

Other things:

I don't know - 2011 is a user interface srap. This backup list alone... Cannot be worse.

John,
One method is to open Windows Explorer. Right click on the tib file. Click on the Archive option and select validation.

As an alternate method, open TIH 2011.
Browse for backup.
Select the tib file and click on the "Add to backup" list.
Once the file has been added to your My Backups task,
then click on the Operations tab and choose the Validate Backup option.

If other backups are running during this validation attempt, you could have a delay before the validation begins.

This with the right click I did. But it works only for certain backups. This with adding the backups to the backup list I did too. But same problem. I copied the backup files back from a different disk since I had to recreate the partition. This is why I want to validate them again. Could this cause the problem? But normally it should not. All backups can be mounted without a problem. And mount is the only right click option that works.

What I did then - reinstalled the software. So I got an empty backup list (I am afraid the only way to delete it...) Then I added the backups to this list - and the software scanned the rest and added them. Then I could validate the files. But with right click at the file the validation still does not work. As before only mounting works. This all under Win7 Ultimate 32 Bit.

John,

What types of backups is validation working with and what types is it not?

Does validation work on all backups if you run it from the rescue CD?

Even though TI2011 doesn't show any messages, are there any log entries?

Are these disk images or file and folder backups?

Are you using an English language version of 2011 and what build are you using?

Now I used the Acronis Cleanup trueimagehomecleanup.zip and reinstalled the software again. Still the same. Right click on a file and validate does not do anything.

I use the version 5519 and English. Some of the backups are from 2010. But since I reinstalled 2011 the right click does not work with any file. The files are all partition backups. It starts a bit and then stops but there is no message. Just a short HD activity. In the Acronis event log there is no entry. In the Win7 log there is no entry.

When I validate the files in Acronis then it works. But the files do not stay in the backup list. When I restart Acronis the backup list is empty again. Works as designed or a problem?

OK, could you answer any of my other questions?

Does it validate from within TIH itself if you try and run a manual validation?

If you include validation as part of the task, does it validate?

The right click problem may be a shell context error in registry.

Within TIH the validation works. But how could I fix a shell context error? What is the correct entry?

Other thing - is it normal that all added backup entries in the list are gone when I restart Acronis?

Want to add that right click mount and recover works. Just validation not. There is no log entry in Acronis or Win7. It worked with 2010.

Off hand I don't have the shell context string for right click validation, but I'll see if I can hunt it down.

EDIT:

Check out this page
and then check to see if you have these entries in registry, we might be able to go from there. They exist on my system plus one extra.

Thank you for the link. I deleted all the keys from this page in the registry. Then I reinstalled Acronis. Still no change. It starts (what I can see in the taskmanager) and then it stops pretty quick without any message. Simply does not want to validate with right click.

Actually I was thinking more of adding to the entries, rather than deleting them

Do you still get some images that can be right clicked and some that can't?

If so, is there any pattern - what types of image are they and what type of file names do they have (if they differ)?

It would still be useful if you could answer the questions I posed in one of my previous posts.

I think I found the problem. When you install 2011 and create backups you can validate THOSE files but not files you made before the install. The same is true if you reinstall the software. All files before the reinstall cannot be validated with right click anymore. Sometimes you might have luck and it does it by accident...

Honestly - I wasted endless hours to find this out. I don't understand what the developers were thinking when the made the new design. Its horrible but since I need alignment I cannot go back to 2010. I would do it now. Alone the items in the backup list are so big that you don't see many items on the screen. But this is not even the worst thing of the new GUI...

If you have any idea how I could fix this problem with the validation please let me know. Somehow I cannot believe that it is like this. Every simple test would have shown this. Perhaps I do something wrong. My version is 5519 and English.

Thank you a lot for your support.

Hello all,

Thank you for posting and thank you very much for your help Grover and Colin.

John, I will definitely assist you with this problem.

Thank you very much for your efforts and your interesting discovery. We were able to reproduce the issue in our Testing Lab.

At the moment it is not clear why it occurs, but backups created with ATIH 2010 cannot be validated using the mouse right click, even if ATIH 2011 was re-installed. I am sorry for any inconvenience.

However, you can still validate the backups through the program interface. As soon as I have an update for this issue, I will post here.

Please let me know if you have additional questions.

Thank you.

I am running ATIH 2011 with XP Pro. I use 1-click for full partition backups with incrementals. I would like to automatically include the validation task so I don't have to run it manually (separately) later. Is there a way to do this?
