None of ALL the Acronis 2011 backups will work
OS Vista Ultimate 32 bit
AMD Phenom II x 4 965
4GB DDR3 1333MHz
Gigabyte GA-MA770T-UD3P
Thermaltake 875W Toughpower XT
All of the latest SP's, regularly defragged. I purchased Acronis True Image 2011, because Vista's Complete Backup & Restore kept giving me errors, usually The request could not be
performed because of an i/o device error (0x8007045D).
This has only started happening on my 1TB External Hard Drive, because I also use this drive to back up everything. I first did a chkdsk /r , it came up with 4 bad sectors, which were supposedly fixed.
To ensure no loss of data, I went and purchased a 2TB External Hard Drive and copied everything across.
I then did two reformat's on the supposedly dodgy 1TB Hard Drive. Tried doing a Windows Complete Backup, failed. (I since found a work around the Complete Backup problem), and had used Vista's Backup and Restore, to successfully create a set of Windows Backups)
So I bought Acronis True Image 2011, in the hope all of my back up problems would be solved, to cut a long story short, I needed to roll back to an earlier time in the day.
Being new to Acronis, I started a Live Chat with a Tech Support Guy, who requested remote access to my PC, (not something I do as a rule nor will I be in a hurry to do it again).
I wasn't aware that by right clicking over the backup you could validate the file, I found this out after the Tech Support Guy ZIPPED ALL OF MY WINDOWS BACKUPS!!. I then went onto to discover that not one of the Acronis backups would validate, they were all corrupted.
I was told by the Tech Support Guy to put the rescue boot disk in, boot up into Acronis, follow the prompts and my Windows Backups would be restored.
Needless to say what a crock.
I have heard so many good things about Acronis, I thought I would invest in this programme, needless to say I feel I have been ripped off.
When I use Acronis to validate it comes up as being verified and working. However when I use Computer and right click on the backed up file and try and validate that way. I get an error message :- Error while parsing script file, event code 0x00900004.
It says to visit the Acronis knowledge base, and when I do nothing comes up. i.e. there is no error message that has been recorded.

Have you niow unzipped the backups?
What size are they?
Did the images validate from the rescue CD or do you have problems accessing the PC via the CD, if so what are the problems?
In Windows are your able to mount or explore the images?
Don't concern yourself about the right click not working that will be a different problem.

Yes I unzipped the windows backups, they were a right mess, so I deleted them and redid them.
Yes I am able to mount the images and explore them.
"Did the images validate from the rescue CD or do you have problems accessing the PC via the CD, if so what are the problems?" No that's where the problems began, I booted from the rescue CD, selected Acronis as my boot of choice, tried to restore "My System", received an error message the files were corrupted.

Dumb question maybe, but what does Image Mounting do exactly? I tried it, it created a new partition, loaded the files, accessed them. But what does it do exactly?

Mounting an image allows you to access the archive as though it is a hardrive, hence the drive letters. Whilst it is mounted you can access it just as you would any physical drive, so programs can be started from it, you could in theory add files to it, except you would need to choose the read/write option when mounting an Acronis image and you would end up with the original image plus a new one with the alterations.
Do the images validate when running in Windows?
If I understand you correctly, you have no problems booting from the rescue CD, just it won't let you validate or restore?
In your account, there is an ISO downlaod available, download and try this, also it would be an idea to download the SAFE version add on from your account, install it and remake the rescue CD, then boot from the CD, select SAFE mode and see if validate etc works.

Hello Colin,
My name is Steve and I have a question for you.
I'm getting this same Error 0x8007045D but this is my situation.
Long story short: I have at least 3 main backups of Acronis for my main machines but this is the first time
I tryed to access any of them. When I got the error I stopped and came here. I have 15
years in computer repair before retiring so I know it best to get help before damaging my chances.
I need storage room on a drive so I have version Acronis True Image Home 2011 Upgrades and this is the first attempt using it.
My OS is Win XP as well as all my main backups.
I took the drive with the backup on it called a tib file and connected usb to my Win 7 machine with a 3 TB external drive.
I wanted to move the tib backup file onto the 3 TB external drive and twice I got this message.
An unexpected error occurred moving the file Error 0x8007045D
I do not want to delete my main backup I just want to do a simple copy onto my external drive.
Any suggestions.
Thanks in advance and look forward to hearing from you.
Steve.

You don't want to move the files until you have a verified successful copy in their new location. Don't use the move option.
You can boot from the TI Recovery CD and use the validation option to verify the quality of your originanl backups--both of the originals and of the copies--after copied.
I truly hope your storage disk does not have disk errors.
My suggestion for copy would be to use a standlalone program--one such free program is Karen's Replicator
http://www.karenware.com/powertools/ptreplicator.asp
Using any quality copy program has a better chance of success rather than using the Windows copy program.
You may want to split the 3T into 2 partitons to stay under the XP mbr 2.2 size limit.
