I Simply want to clone one SSD connected via a USB 3.0 port to another SSD connected to another USB 3.0 port using Acronis 2019 cloning software.

Once all set up I get this message, "After operation completion, operating systems will not boot from the destination disk in bios."

So what does that mean, like what does the bios reference refer to?

Everything I read seems really complicated, using boot media and such.

Mostly I do not want to destroy the original disk from my note book computer.  It uses an M.2 type SSD and I purchased another M.2 SSD and two M.2 USB 3.0 readers thinking this would be a simple clone from one to another.

I would greatly appreciate your help.

It's basically telling you you can't boot a Windows image from a USB drive. The clone should be fine.

The bios is the firmware of your computer - it's your motherboard essentially. The bios starts up and then talks to the internal components (your OS hard drive, etc) to boot up the OS.

Now that the clone is done, just check the contents of the external in windows explorer while it's connected via USB.

The only issue to worry about when cloning is making sure you don't have 2 internal disks that are clones of each other at the same time. The bios could see them as the same and get confused which to boot, possibly preventing both from booting.

This is not a problem for external drives since you can't boot Windows from an external USB anyway.

Wow, Thanks so much!  This is kind of what I expected and it makes sense. I will go ahead with it now.

Only note of caution - make sure you pick the correct source and destination.  If you clone the wrong drive onto the wrong drive, well, that could be bad :)

Best way to be sure when cloning, is give each volume a unique name (like: My Main OS C:\    and Grey External USB D:\           and Black External USB   E:\)

Name them whatever you want, but just so that way you know 100% what drive you're picking as the source and the destination and can't ever confuse them.

Awesome sauce!! Happy to help and glad it all went smoothly!!
