How to write tib file to new drive?

Thread needs solution

I have backed up one of my failing partitioned hard drives to a tib file and would like to know how to write the image to the new drive.

This image has the OS on it so I assume it will boot up once I place it back in my computer??

I am using ATI2011 and can't find the option to copy the image on to a hard drive.

Or am I just this blind..(and stupid)

Please help and thank you in advance

John

If this is your boot drive, it should be done when booted from the Rescue CD. If this is a data drive, then it can be done from Windows but you will have much less issues if you do that from the Rescue CD as well.

I have a guide for a prior version but the procedures are basically the same. Look at the Restore Guide in item #3 inside my signature index below.

Thanks. I'm somewhat confused here, so I'll tell you exactly what I did and hopefully you'll make heads or tails of it.
I know I'm probably not explaining it right but here goes.

I have a failing hard drive on my computer, it's partitioned with windows on partition 1 (15GB) and storage on partition 2 (235GB)
Started getting S.M.A.R.T primary master failure error on computer so I took hard drive out and proceeded to hook it up via usb/IDE adapter
to my neighbor's home computer. She has Acronis true image home 2011 installed on it and we used Acronis to back up the partition 1 (the one with windows on it)
Acronis backed up image (tib file) but found 2 bad sectors which I had to ignore. (hopefully it won't be a problem)
Saved tib file to neighbor's computer.
I purchased a new 250 GB and have formatted & partitioned it already and would like to copy tib image over to new drive (partition 1)

My neighbor doesn't know anything about Acronis rescue CD, as the computer was her ex-boyfriend's and he's out of the picture now.
What the computer has are these programs that i can see...

Acronis true image home 2011
Acronis plus pack
Acronis media add-ons

I would like to take my saved tib file and import it in to the new drive (partition 1)
Does the software my neighbor has is able to do this? If so, which software and how?

Sorry for all the questions, but I'm a noob at this and don't want to screw anything up.

Since the file is on the neighbors computer the best thing would be to connect the new HD like the old one via usb/IDE to the computer of your neighbor and restore the file from his computer with his True Image 2011. Should not be a problem. A rescue CD would not be very helpful since the tib file is on the computer of your neighbor. But if you want to create one just look in the menu of Acronis True Image - there is an option to build it. You can use a USB stick too instead of a CD or DVD.

Thank you. I just can't seem to find a restore option to do this. Where exactly is it in Acronis menu?

John Morningstar,
What operatiing system on your old computer? If XP, the backup should be ok. If Vista or Window-7, the backup also needs the boot partition and you will need the OS install CD--if you are to succeed.

I would suggest that you go ahead and create the Rescue CD. This can be done via the bootable media option on the neighbors computer. Using the Rescue CD is more straight forward. It also enables you to simulate or practice what you need to do. When using the Rescue CD, it is practice until you reach the summary screen where you must choose either to Cancel or Proceed. The summary screen shows what actions are going to be performed. Click cancel to stop the practice. If performing from within Windows, there is no Summary screen and should you click on the "Recover now" option, you are commited to the procedures chosen.

The attachments below are similar as to what you can expect to see when performing a disk restore when booted from the TI Rescue CD.
The attachment 7-1, 7-2, 7-3 are approximate (but not exact) as to what you might see.

Folks, there is one thing that has been missed so far, John you've only made an image of the OS partition, what about the data partition?

I think you should make a complete disk image, to ensure you have your data as well as the OS for your new drive.

I would take advantage of the image being on the neighbours computer. Make a complete disk image, then install the new drive into the PC temporarily and then restore either the whole disk image to this drive or a partition at a time.

As this won't be the booting drive in the neighbours machine, you can take advantage of performing all the operations in Windows and not have to worry about the reboot 'problem'.

You should validate and or try mounting/exploring the image before restore, just to make sure all is OK.

John, one more advice. Create the data partition with the Win 7 of your friend. You don't write about your OS but XP does not align partitions for new 4K drives and so you avoid (future) problems. Then you should connect both HDs to your friends computer. Afterwards just copy and paste the data from the old to the new disk with Win 7 copy - no need for Acronis and some perhaps hidden problems. And the good thing will be that all your data will be perfectly defragged on the new disk.

If you want to compare the old/new disk afterwards you can use the free Winmerge Portable (just search on the Internet).

Thank you everyone. Just a bit more info. My neighbors comoputer is XP. I have saved tyhe tib file to usb drive for backup.

I'd like to go through windows to write the OS image on the new drive.

Here is a screen shot of her Acronis.......where do i go from here?
I don't see any options for writing the image.

John ,

You need to go back a page! Click on the Home button so that you are on the page that lists the images, you can make and recover an image from there.
