Backup size has grown from one machine to another

Thread needs solution

Moved OS drive, Samsung 970 EVO PLUS 500GB, from GIGABYTE mobo to ASUS mobo. On GIGABYTE mobo backup was 14GB, on ASUS mobo the backup is now 35 GB.

The properties of the drive in File Explorer show 24.6 GB used.

STORAGE setting in SETTINGS shows 24.8 GB used.

Since I use ATI, I have System Protection/Restore turned off - no "restore points" on drive.

Been using ATI for years and don't recall ever running into this issue before.

Suggestions appreciated on how to resolve this situation

Since making the above post, uninstalled ATI 2018, installed ATI 2017 and 2019 - same results with all 3 versions.

Since making the 2nd post, I re-installed the image from the Gigabyte mobo and this time all is well.

Go figure...

BChat, not sure how to respond to this issue with the difference in backup sizes as would need a lot more information, including log files / Acronis System Report files from each of the two scenarios involved.

If you still have the Acronis backup image .tib files for each scenario, then you could try mounting each to a different drive letter then using a utility such as TreeSize Free to compare where the extra space is being taken?

I would mount both backups as volume letters and then use treesize to compare the content in both to try and identify the inside content differences at the folder level. This might explain the difference easily and quickly.

Different backup methods have different behavior, but could be a variation of default exclusions, compression setting used, etc. Was the source the same on both (excuse vendor factory restore partition it something).

Steve,

Thanks for the reply. As I mentioned above, I reinstalled the image from the GB mobo again and this time all was well with the backup

I used TreeSize and drive properties, nothing showed the source of the extra space. I'm going to chalk this up to one of those unexplainable things computer do on occasion.
