Can a conversion to a VM be done on anything other than latest backup?

Thread needs solution
I'm testing the new capability in Acronis Backup 12.5 Update 4 to convert a backup into a VMware Workstation VM.

I perform a backup daily so I have a lot backups available. I would like to convert an older backup into a VM, so I create a plan to perform a conversion. When I create the plan I'm not being given an option to convert any previous backups into a VM. Am I missing how to do this or is it really only possible to convert the very latest backup?

Hello Hannes.

When you create a plan for backup conversion to VM, by design there is no choice to select a slice of backup that could be converted - only the latest backup (as the latest part of the backup set within this backup plan) is available for conversion.

As a workaround, you can go to the Backups tab, select that archive, pick the recovery point you need, click on the gear icon next to it, select Export and save it as a separate backup at another location. Then you can return to the Plans tab, select Conversion to VM and pick this newly exported backup.

Maria,

Thanks for the information. I do appreciate it. However, I would also appreciate it if you could submit a request to be able to perform a conversion of a previous backup as a feature suggestion.

Here is an example of where this could be useful:

Assume that you have a problem in a current installation of Windows. You are not certain at what point in time the problem was introduced so you may potentially need to convert several backups into a VM for testing until you find the point that you actually need to roll back to. Now imagine that backup is a few TB in size. Imagine how long it would take to export multiple versions of the backup and how much additional disk space this will require.

I've worked with several other products that allow me to convert any backup in the chain into a VMware Workstation VM so I just basically assumed this to be basic functionality of any disk imaging based backup software.

Thanks once again for your help.
