How to Validate Backup
Not sure how to validate my completed backup file or to know if it has been validated?.

Manual validation is available from the drop-down of any existing backup task in the console too.

For some reason I wasn't getting all those choices with the down arrow, but I do see them now. Problem solved, thnx.

I spoke to soon. Doing another full backup on a different PC which stated "backup completed successfully". The down arrow produces only three choices: Rename, Clone settings, or delete.?? There is no validate choice on this backup.

Did you check the activity tab too to see if it put an update there?

What kind of backup - Entire PC, Disks and partitions, Files and folders - were to taking? And what is the destination - local drive, NAS, cloud? I don't know if it matters but I'm curious.

to Bobbo First of all is there a way to remove all in the Activity folder And No I did not know that the would show. I did now check and I have so much in there I'm getting more and more confused. On Aug. 11, I did 2 Backups and 2 validations I'm not sure but the difference in size should be because I either added or removed the check mark to the Exclusions plus the fact I removed the hyperfil.sys and the pagefile.sys and another Free Fall game and I don't remember when this was accomplished, all I remember it was on the 11th. To make matters worse I believe I already deleted the largest of the 2 backups I made leaving the smaller which was the same size of the one that started my problems. Basically I don't know which file the validation was made from. The smaller size that is showing is the same size that that I tried to use to recover and it only got so far before it stated it recovered with errors. luckily I had a rescue disk and was able to use the file from July 2. If I can blank out the activity page I will start over and then validate
I guess there is nothing better then screwups to learn something

Bob, there aren't many entries in the tab at present (at least not in the screenshot). Based on what I see, I see 3 separate Full backups.
One on 6/1, the next on 7/2 and the most current on 8/11. In all likelihood, all of them are good and usable. But if you are concerned with the current 8/11 backup, then just go into the console and manually kick off a new backup now instead of waiting a month again. All you do is press the green "backup now" button in the lower right corner of the screen after you've selected your backup task in the left hand panel.
As for which one was validated in the screenshot, I would say it is the one from 8/11 since the dates are the same and the validation is within about 1 hour of that backup completing.
If you want to validate any of those backups, just to be sure now, then right-click on the .tib file in Windows explorer and select the option to validate it from there.

I know you asked Bobbo, but I'll take a shot at this.
As far as I know there is no way to remove entries from the Activity tab other than by deleting the ATI database (ie., a clean reinstall). The capability has been asked for. Making a clone of a backup task and deleting the original would effectively do the same thing for one task. Being able to selectively delete (or hide from display) would be nice.
If the ATI GUI provides an option for validating specific backups, it's pretty well hidden. I think it just validates the latest backup. I'm pretty sure the stand-alone recovery media versions of ATI allow you you to select a specific backup and validate it.

Cool! I never noticed the Validate was an option.

First of all I'd like to THANK everybody. I did a another complete backup with validation and it gave me "the validation is good". Maybe when I get time I'll try validating the others, I know the one on July 1 is good because that's the one I used to get my PC restored.
Thank goodness I had a Rescue Disk or I'd be SOL.
Again thanks to all...BOB

Excellent! Yes, always make and test your rescue media and so glad you have it already. It is essential for recovery... especially if Windows is borked up or just won't boot.
