disabling windows 7 Integration does not work in Update1 (6574)
I tried Acronis True Image 2011 and can't turn off windows 7 integration - I want to uninstall the product and go back to plain windows backup. Well I can't. When I do use a link in Control Panel (Turn On windows backup) nothing happens after starting control panel, computer I still see Acronis tools.
When I do use the main program window Help -> Settings -> Integrate true image into windows...
the Acronis Console is ALWAYS checked. Even when I uncheck it - it ALWAYS comes back...
How can I manually get rid of this ? I don't think that I want those tools to mess up with my system any more. And why wasn't I asked about this integration during the installation process ??
regards,
Tom

Tomasz,
Are you using the latest build? Build 6574 allows you to select or deselect W7 integration.

I was using older build before - I deinstalled that version and installed latest build and nothing has changed.
As i wrote before by using the UI I can't change the Control Panel behavior. I do change the settings in UI (as decribed in KB), and to my surprise, nothing changes. In Control Panel I got Acronis stuff. So I run ATIH again and checked settings - Integration with windows was ON again!! And this goes round and round. Also cliking left link in "turn windows backup on" don't do a thing.

Tomasz,
Is this from the new Settings option off the Help menu?

Yes. My thread is getting messy.
I'm running windows 7 Polish Professional 64bit version. I was using TIH 2011 for a period of time and and I deinstalled the product and saw the problem with integration and found that it can be solved with new build. So I installed new trial version. I was playing with UI for a while and nothing was happening as I wrote before (and yes from new Help menu).
Next I deinstalled TIH 2011 and used cleanup utility (trueimagehomecleanup.zip). Nothing has helped.
I was able to run single backup from Action Center once but still can't access the main interface from CP or Action Center.
I installed TIH 2011 again and now Integration is checked off but windows backup interface don't work.

Same here. From the help menu "cannot turn OFF Windows update" event though it is already off.
From the control panel "Cannot turn ON widows update"
I need to create a Windows Repair disk but now that Acronis has taken over the control panel I can't access Windows Backup.

Hi Tomasz,
I had the same problems with REMOVING Acronis Integration - and restoring Win-7 Pro x86 Backup & Restore - as you did.
I was running the latest TIH 2011 Build #6696 (Feb 2011).
The solution was a THREE step process - the Acronis patch, referred to in my saga below, does NOT work, as ACRONIS prematurely claims, just by itself. It requires two other procedures.
Finally ... after a half dozen attempts using the Acronis FIX patch
(http://kb.acronis.com/content/14741 named “winintegrationfix.zip” ), I
managed to release the death grip that Acronis TIH 2011 keeps on the
original Microsoft Win-7 PRO x86 version (possibly others), of the Control Panel option BACKUP and RESTORE.
The Acronis FIX patch "itself" kept failing to complete, because (according to
the patch execution message) ... “Certain KEYS were still active” ... in the
Registry - even when I executed the patch using an Administration level
account, and nothing else was running.
Tried it in Windows SAFE mode - same kind of failure.
Acronis Tech Support said nothing about this, even though I sent them a screen
capture of the message and the details of the Patch Failure.
There is a Forum Post, of how "Mr. Dmitry Petrukhin" (an Acronis QA
Engineer) suggests fixing the problem, MANUALLY, by editing the REGISTRY
file.
SEE: ... Forum ITEM - “14144: ATIH 2011. How to remove Acronis from
Windows context menu???? “
QUOTE: Response #20 in the list dated: Thu, 2010-09-23 07:49
......
Meanwhile, to enable Windows Backup manually please do the following:
1. Start 'regedit'.
2. Locate the following registry key:
HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\CLSID\{B98A2BEA-7D42-4558-8BD1-832F41BAC6FD}\Instance\InitPropertyBag
3. Change the value of ResourceDLL to %SystemRoot%\System32\sdcpl.dll
4. Change the value of ResourceID to 14 (Hexademical).
5. Restart your PC.
However, this still FAILED to work on the first try, since REGEDIT
complained that EVEN my “Administration Account” still was not allowed to
change those two suggested keys.
........
Nothing to lose, I went into the Regedit (Edit—>PERMISSIONS) tab, and
gave myself "FULL" permissions for changing the REGISTRY KEYS.
This now allowed me to manually edit those two keys, mentioned in the forum
article above.
The BAD news was that, even after reboot, the Win-7 Control Panel option (Backup
and Restore), was now suddenly "TOTALLY DEAD", and would not launch, even to
show the previous Acronis TIH Integrated Version Control Panel Backup
screen. But at least it was a step forward.
Going for broke, nothing to lose, again, I ALSO re-ran the Acronis PATCH
for about the sixth time, and finally it completed its merge into the
Registry – this time, error free !!!!!!!!
After rebooting, the Control Panel option – Microsoft Backup and Restore – was
WONDERFULLY back to its original native Win-7 Microsoft version.
I then retried the Acronis TIH HELP “Settings” option, to see if the
INTEGRATION of Backup was now available and offered again – it was NOT. It
still offered just the other TWO ACRONIS integrations of “Properties and Shortcut
Menus”, exactly as when this whole INTEGRATION problem started.
The problem should have been escalated to a developer months ago (for
those other users complaining about this), or at least tech support should have
talked to Dmitry Petrukhin in the QA department.
What a hassle - Acronis need to seriously rethink its off-shore support contract with India - at least the Russian tech support is often much more helpful.
