Warning! After Operation Completion Operating Systems Will Not Boot From The Destination Disk In Bios
This is the message {in the title} I get right before I attempt to "initiate recovery" from an Acronis Recovery Flash Drive. I did some additional research and found a paraphrase about the following:
". . . The normal cause of this error is because the Acronis Rescue Media used for restore has been booting in a different BIOS mode to that used by the Windows OS . . . "
I confirmed with msinfo32 that the BIOS MODE of my windows is UEFI. Second, I confirmed that the boot from the flash drive is indeed as UEFI. As I have UEFI: in front of the bootable flash drive.
I am now at a complete loss.
Any help is appreciated.
Thanks.

Hi Steve,
Yes, I have confirmed that "Windows Boot Manager" as the boot device in my BIOS. And yes, I have confirmed that under Disk Management my primary drive partition is indeed GPT.
I guess at this point, I will try the restore to a separate extra drive that I have (thank you for the suggestion). After I restore to this spare disk, do I simply try to boot from this spare disk? And if that works consider it a success or is there some other additional indicators I should look to confirm?
Thanks. I will keep the group posted to my findings and see if I actually have a "false positive" {hopefully}

Scott, good that you have a spare drive to test with - assuming that that spare drive will replace the current one, then test booting from it, but first check the BIOS boot settings again to ensure it still has the Windows Boot Manager.
It it boots OK then all should be fine to do the restore to the original drive, but if there are issues, then boot from the original and look in Disk Management at the spare drive and check whether this still shows as GPT or has been converted to MBR?

Will do, once I return from my work, I will test it out in the next day or two and report back to the group. Thanks.

Ok, very interesting. I mounted an ssd Samsung 860 (as my spare, it is new non-formated, but was planning on purposing it elsewhere) and removed the old primary ssd Samsung 850. Ensured I used the UEFI: Acronis Rescue Media bootable. And I did not get the warning message when I attempted to restore to this 860. In turn, I recovered successfully, I booted up. I checked the disk management for the partition type (it was in fact GPT).
So, I am like guess what, this will be my new primary drive. So, I powered down and formally installed it in my case and I up and running just fine. Will now use the used Samsung 850 someplace else. Still cannot explain why I was getting that error message before with this specific drive. Is it possible cause I was restoring to that primary drive which contained the primary OS from before? I don't know, but overall, I am pleased.

Scott, thanks for the update / feedback. Very strange and puzzling but the end result sounds like a good solution here and an opportunity to go with the newer 960 SSD while repurposing the older one!
