Another problem. Disk Cleaner has stopped working. NOW WHAT?

Thread needs solution

So far I'm really not impressed with Acronis. Its been nothing but buggy.

So after 3 days trying to clone a drive and trying every possible option, I was finally able to get it to work but now I can't finish a Disk Clean on the old HDD.

I ran Disk  Clean for the old HDD and after 10 hours it's been stuck at 7 minutes for over 3 hours. I don't want to cancel and start over or damage the disk. I ran Task manager and Acronis is open but just sitting there doing nothing. It doesn't show an unresponsive it's just not finishing the Disk Clean.

Any clue what I can do to get it to finish?

Daniel, see my reply in your other topic where you raised this same issue - this is a potentially very long running process so the only real answer is to wait it out!

I don't think there would be an issue cancelling the operation - it's possible that it hung up if the disk went into power saving mode at some point for lack of physical input, and may not be able to pick up where it left off. The estimated time is always a crap shoot as it fluctuates based on the performance of the disk and computer (just like you see in Windows doing a simple copy / paste of different types of data).  But, going from 7 minutes to 3 days seems quite off.  I don't know how big the disk is, or how it's connected, or how many passes you're doing, but all of those settings make an impact.

I usually don't use the clean option in Acronis - there are so many free tools that are dedicated for this specific function. I use ccleaner for this particular task, but a lot of free partitioning tools also have this feature.  As a reference, I recently used it for a 1 time simple pass on a 320GB 7200rpm laptop drive from a usb3.0 external adapter.  It took about 1.5 hours to complete.  I ran the simple pass 3 times in a row, so about 4.5 total.  The progress bar time fluctuated, but it always completed and gave a confirmation and the completion time was pretty realistic.

There are a lot of variables for cloning - not just related to Acronis.  You'll find threads here in the Acronis forum with people having issue with Samsung's clone tool or other competitor products that had success with Acronis.  Likewise, you'll find users in other forums where Acronis didn't work for them, but another product did.

Cloning has a lot more volatility then a straight backup and recovery.  When cloning works, it works great.  When it doesn't, it's frustrating.  Personally, I always opt to do a full backup before any clone or restore and since I have that backup, I usually just recover from it and this has been rock solid.  The more you do it, the more it becomes 2nd nature and there are almost always "interesting" behavior and results, on new/different computers, but have always been able to get it work, even if that sometimes means using backup / restore instead of clone.

I gave up on it and canceled it. So far Acronis is just far too buggy for me. I'm going with CCleaner. Its 2Tb over a USB adapter so it looks like another 17 hours waiting. Maybe I'll get this done by the weekend. Thanks.

Same issue for me using Disk Cleanser. "Estimated time left: 1 min remaining" for over an hour now.
