ESXi host backup uses incorrect file format
Hi Acronis team,
Backing up an ESXi host where both the system settings and plan settings specify version 12 file format, being single file TIBX, actually results in old version 11 TIB and associated XML files.
How to reproduce:
- Select Devices
- Select an ESXi host from the All Devices list shown
- Select Backup
- Click the plan configuration gear and ensure version 12 file format is selected
- Complete other necessary details of the plan
- Click Run without using the drop down portion of the Run button
- View results of backup as version 11 format instead of intended version 12 formatted files

We're not using a managed location with deduplication. The issue does reproduce with a new backup plan. I was able to replicate it using the provided simplified instructions.

Hello IT Master,
thanks for clarifications.
Where do you back up? What is the target backup location?

Update: discussed this topic with the RnD - Legacy archive (format 11) is the default and only possible option for this type of backup. The reason is that the ESX configuration backup has a different structure as compared to the plain disk-level backups.

Okay, Ivan Belinsky, one of your lead support engineers, had suggested the format change.
As you suggest, this is not possible due to the structure, so perhaps updating documentation and advising the support team would be the path forward.
Thank you for clarifying this matter.
