Thread needs solution

I need help please. I've tried to clone my drive several times and it keeps failing. I'm running Windows 10 and the latest ATI software.  I just purchased a new Crucial SSD.  I've tried booting from the ATI created USB drive, but it continues to tell me to unlock the disk. Boot your computer from a linux-based bootable media and try again. I've done this from the HP boot menu in command line.  Neither from within windows or dos does this work.  Please help.

Dave, welcome to these public User Forums.

The log messages you have posted show that the core issue with your clone is that ATI cannot fit all your source data onto your target drive!

Error 0x101f6: A format/resize error.

The particular partition it is not able to resize is the Recovery partition on the drive.

7. Copying partition Hard disk: 1 -> 2 Drive letter: D: File system: NTFS Volume label: Recovery Image Size: 12.57 GB -> 10.96 GB

 From looking at the complete log you are moving from a 3TB HDD to a 500GB SSD drive where the resize actions needed are shown in the log detail.

4. Copying partition Hard disk: 1 -> 2 Drive letter: - File system: FAT32 Volume label: SYSTEM Size: 360 MB
5. Copying partition Hard disk: 1 -> 2 Drive letter: C: File system: NTFS Volume label: Windows Size: 2.715 TB -> 0.443 TB
6. Copying partition Hard disk: 1 -> 2 Drive letter: - File system: NTFS Volume label: Windows RE tools Size: 980 MB
7. Copying partition Hard disk: 1 -> 2 Drive letter: D: File system: NTFS Volume label: Recovery Image Size: 12.57 GB -> 10.96 GB
8. Copying MBR Hard disk: 1 -> 2

Step 5. above shows the major resize action from 2.715TB down to just 443GB.

I would recommend doing this resize on the source drive before attempting the clone but take the size lower than the 443GB shown in the log, i.e. down to 440GB to try avoid having to resize the Recovery partition from its source 12.57GB size.

You can try to do the resize using the Shrink volume option in Windows Disk Management or else download a copy of the free MiniTool Partition Wizard software which offers much more control when resizing partitions.

Note: It is highly recommended to have a full disk backup of any drive before making partition changes!

Hi Steve.  Thank you for your response.  What I don't understand is that I only have 329 GB of used space on my existing drive, and the recovery image partition is only 10.9 GB.  Even though it's a 3 TB drive, the 341 GB should fit easily on the 443 GB SSD.

ATI will try to resize your partitions proportionally where possible but it can have issues with resizing the recovery partition as evidenced by other posts in these forums for the same issue!

If you can resize your C: partition manually as suggested, then the clone should go smoothly.
