F11 Causes Hang

Thread needs solution

I can use the bootable CD OK but if I try to use F11 on my new PC it hangs as soon as I move the mouse to try and select backup.
I must power off to recover.
This new PC is a Dell e6410 with Windows-7 Pro 64bit.
Using build 7046 and have both TI 210 and Plus.

Any help would be nice since I like F11 for backups better than the CD.

Hello Bernie,

Welcome to the forum and thank you for your post. I will definitely help you with this issue.

We can try updating the bootable components first, to check if this resolves the issue. They may simply need updating or changing.

In any case, I will send you a private message with some files, you will need to download them and place them to this folder on your machine:

C:\Program Files\Common Files\Acronis\TrueImageHome

After that, I would really appreciate if you can try using Acronis Startup Recovery Manager one more time and letting me know how it goes.

Please let me know if you have additional questions.

Thank you.

I tried as you requested (with the exceptions noted below) with exactly the sme results. That is I push F11 and the acronis screen comes up. as soon as I use the mouse to move the cursor the PC hange and I must power it off to recover.

Exceptions to your directions:
1. I assume you ment Program Files (x86) instead of Program Files since my PC has a 64bit Win 7
2. There wsa no ramdisk.dat
3. There was no gen_bootmenu.bin

What next?

In case I wasn't clear:
The files you had me replace DID NOT fix the problem and I still waiting on a FIX.

Thanks

I looked at the link and I don't think that is the problem. First of all F11 does work -- I get to the Acronis screen. The probelm is that as soon as I try and move the mouse the cursor moves about 1/2 inch and the PC hangs.

In addition, I tried to change the c:\progam files (x86)\common files\acronis\trueimagehome\f11.cfg to use F10 but I don't have permission to change the file.

Is there anything else that might work for MY problem?

Thanks, Bernie

Hello Bernie and Grover,

Grover, thank you for your kind assistance.

Bernie, I appreciate your follow-up. I am sorry for any inconvenience but at this point this issue will require investigation because it is not clear why it occurs even though you updated the bootable components.

I would really appreciate if you could collect this report from the bootable media and contact our Support team and I am certain that we will get to the bottom of the problem.

Should you need additional help, or have any other questions, please let me know.

Thank you.

I am starting to get pretty upset with this "support". It seems no one even bothered to read my problem description!!! If I could move my mouse to do the steps needed to generate the report I would not be having the problem I would like to solve.

IF I TRY TO MOVE THE MOUSE ON THE CD BOOT SCREEN MY PC HANGS. IN ORDER TO DO ANYTHING ELSE i HAVE TO POWER MY PC OFF AND BACK ON!!!

HOW DO YOU EXPECT ME TO MOVE THE MOUSE TO THE AREA TO TRY AND GENERATE THE REPORT???

I thought you said that you could use the CD okay. If you boot to the CD can't you select to generate the report? Perhaps you are referring to the ASRM Acronis menu (the F11 menu)?

Otherwise, create a new CD and select for Acronis System Report to start automatically after a few seconds so you don't need to move the mouse or press a key. Maybe it will work that way.

I sent the system report as an attachment on a private mail.

In the meantime I might have seen a clue:

I tried to deactivate the F11 option and it did not work. See log number 16894 for that problem description. In that log I was ask to use my CD to try and deactivate F11 and the .iso I use does not have the tools to do that. I then tried to make a CD from Acronis and that CD hangs in exactly the same way as F11. The CD I have that does work is an ISO I downloaded from the support site back when I was on Windows XP. It is the only CD that works now.
