Dell Image Will Not Boot

Thread needs solution

Using True Image 9. I created an image from a Dell Optiplex with 80 GB hard drive running XP SP3 onto a usb connected backup drive. This was the original Dell install on the drive. Checked the image and ok. Removed the drive from the Dell and installed a new 80GB Seagate Barracuda drive. Booted the Dell with the Acronis CD and restored the image from the backup drive to the new location. All smooth so far.

Restarted the Dell and the new drive will not boot. Message says the drive in place is not bootable.

Any suggestions to make the drive bootable would be appreciated.

I did check Disk 1 but the image would not boot. Removed the image and tried again with same result. Image would not boot.

Installed the new drive as a second drive in the computer and cloned the original drive to the new drive. Replaced the original drive with the cloned drive and computer booted with no problem so all is well. Still would liek to kown why the imaged drive would not boot.

That is unusual. The Backup/Recovery method usually has a higher success rate than Cloning.

No it is not unusual. Ati does not restore the partition types correctly in the partition table. And dell's custom mbr code looks for certain partition types in the table. If ati cannot put the correct values back in, then the mbr 'crashes' !!

These guys clearly only care about getting you to spend your money. They care nothing about providing a program that actually works and has any kind of intuitive user interface. I've about had it. The fact that no one from acronis even seems to respond to these threads is proof.

I am trying to figure this out on my own, since Raspreet Singh (what a surprise) that chatted with me on support obviously knew nothing about this program, he simply cut and pasted pre-canned answers to me.

Acronis, are you listening??? This program doesn't do what it says it will. At all.
