Downgrading TI 2020 to ATI 2019

I was having so much trouble with TI 2020 that I decided to downgrade to TI 2019 which was ideal for me. I uninstalled ATI-2020 via Win-10 control panel and then (probably mistakenly) used ATI 2020 Cleanup Utility. Now my system will not let me install TI 2019 and I get an error code of 2908. OK, guess I shouldn't have used the ATI Cleanup Utility so I thought I'd reinstall ATI 2020. Now I can't install that either; error code 2908. Thoroughly frustrated.

Try downloading / running the Windows Installer CleanUp Utility 7.2 then retry either ATI 2019 or 2020 install again.

If that doesn't help resolve this issue, then see KB 46710: Acronis True Image: Installation Fails in Windows and collect the installer MSI log for analysis.

I don't think I've used the 2020 version of the Cleanup Utility but I have not seen the older cleanup utilities cause problems.  I also have not personally seen error code 2908 but from searching the web it sounds like either a permissions problem or a registry problem.  I don't think the utility could have messed up your permissions but I suppose it could have messed up the registry.

I found a web page that suggests some solutions:

https://www.personalcomputerfixes.com/how-to-fix-error-2908-when-instal…

I cannot vouch for anything on that web page.  The first thing they suggest is installing under a different profile - a different user id.  If you don't have multiple profiles on your computer you could create a new one (with admin authority) and try installing ATI under it.  But that would be effective only if your problem is with permissions.

I'm not sure how to handle the possible registry problem.  That web page suggests using a registry cleanup utility but those can cause more troubles than they fix.  I don't recommend using them.

You apparently had ATI 2019.  Do you have a backup and a usable recovery medium?  You best be might be to recover your computer from the backup.

A less drastic step would be to go back to an earlier restore point ... if you have Windows' System Protection enabled.

And for further down the line - once you have your computer back in a stable condition - could you tell us what trouble you had with ATI 2020?

I tried using msicuu2.exe program but True Image is not listed as a program installed. I don't trust the programs on https://www.personalcomputerfixes.com/how-to-fix-error-2908-when-instal… so I guess maybe ATI techs can help. I'll wait a few days.

I wouldn't trust a brand-x program like that, either. But ten, I don't trust programs like CCleaner, either, when it comes to the registry.
