SMTP settings need user name and password in TrueImage 2011 build 6597

Thread needs solution

When I set email notification, I need to enter a user name and passord for the smtp server in order to click on Ok button. Otherwise the dialog box refuses to validate my settigns. Problem : I have no user name and password needed for my smtp server, so why should I enter some ???? It also succeeds sending a test email with this configuration, but then no way to validate my smtp configuration ! That only doesn't work since build 6597 has it always worked correctly since TrueImage 9.0, at least !....

I also am experiencing the same issue. My ISP does not require a username and password for a SMTP connection, and will not work with one. ATIH2011 needs to allow the option of not setting these fields.

This problem was supposed to have been fixed in build 6597 (it was created in build 6574), however it appears only the no password option is working

Hello all,

Thank you for your comments, and for finding time to report about the issue. I understand your concern, and will do my best to shed the light to the situation.

Currently due to the architecture of the product one cannot setup e-mail notifications in case his SMTP doesn't require login/password: these fields are required, and unless you have these options specified, you won't be able to set e-mail notifications.

We entirely understand how inconvenient this may be, and be sure our Development team is already working on changing the style of working with e-mail notifications. Unfortunately ETA for the fix is not available, but we will definitely keep you posted.

Should you need anything else or have any further questions - feel free to contact us at your earliest convenience, we will be happy to help you!

Thank you!

Hope this fix will arrive before I definitely decide to come back to TI 2010... In such case I will definitely ignore Ti2011 and wait for a 2012 or 2013 stable fresh new release....

It is now over 3 months since the Moderator said no ETA on a fix.

Could the moderator tell us if there will be a fix available in 2011 or is the fix not scheduled until 2012?

I dont see why it is so difficult to code this, especially as there was working code in previous versions of ATI

@Robert,

The serial numbers are different. You'd need to contact Sales I would think.

I found I had downloaded a copy late last year that works as I want it to. I no longer allow the check for newer version option.

OK, help me -- I am on Home 2011 Build 6696, using TWC Email which requires unencrypted authentication. How can I be informed each morning of the previous night's data backup?

Well, to work around this limitation in 2011, you could set up an account on gmail or another POP3-enabled mail service, use their SSL port 465 SMTP pop3 settings and then forward your mail to your TWC account.

You are correct, Pat. That is exactly what I do, and it works. The issue remains; why is the function broken in 2011 when it worked well in 2010? Does not make Acronis appear very creditable.

This appears to have been fixed in build 6857

However although one of my machines offered the update to that build, another did not. I had to use Help -> Check For Updates... to get it to see the new build.

Once it was updated, the email notifications would work without a user name / password.

No build 6857 was no different, it did not fix the issue on my system.

In fact build 6857 introduced other bugs so that I went back to the previous build.

I wonder if build 6857 was the last build before ATI 2012.

That's strange - but to be clear, I certainly had the issue with the previous build, but checking for, downloading and installing the update to 6857 sorted the problem out immediately.

I'm curious as to what the other bugs were? Anything that's worth looking out for?

The other bugs have all been discussed here shortly after the build came out. In particular if you dont use online backup every time you boot up your computer you get an on screen error message. There is a thread all about this.
