Quota exceeded

Thread needs solution

August.

Hello Toptension,

The message The quotas are violated usually indicates one of the following situations

  • NAS: the limit (quota) for the NAS user account, indicated during backup setup, has been reached. This quota/limitation is configured in NAS settings outside of Acronis software. Acronis has no influence on it. The NAS user account is completely unrelated to Acronis account and is set exclusively through the NAS management panel

  • External drive, where backups are saved, has quotas enabled for different Windows users

and the solutions for the above cases are

  • Enter NAS management panel and increase quota for the NAS account, that was used in backup configuration

  • Right-click the disk, where backups are saved, in Windows Explorer, and if there is Quota tab, click on it and click “Show Quota settings”. Increase the quota for the SYSTEM account and the current Windows user account.

 Hope this helps

Well thank you for your suggestions. This is not a NAS, just a regular local drive. I am not at the machine in question right now, but will check the quota settings. Since I am my own Administrator on that machine I doubt there are quotas in place. since I didn't define any.

Yes, I am running out of space on the drive, but I had configured the backup for automatic cleanup (no more than 390GB) and was expecting it to delete older backups automatically when necessary. This does not work for some reason.

The other issue is, the backup failed and I do not get any notification email. Notification emails in general work and get through, for example when an external drive is not attached or if I also enable them for successful backups.

So I do not have a backup and also do not have a clue, that things didn't work. I feel safe but I am not.

Check your backup task Notification page settings at the top where you can elect to set a free space limit which can also give these Quata exceeded issues if set to a high value.

Had a look today: Windows-Quotas are not activated on the target drive. Also I had notifications enabled for free disk space < 100MB, but I am nowhere near that limit. Possible free space is not enough for the incremental backup though, which is maybe around 10 gig.

I turned off the notification for disk space running short, just to be on the safe sinde and will have to see, if it makes any difference, once I get close to the limit again.
