Cannot create bootable media - no explanation
Hi, I'm trying to create an Acronis Survival Kit and falling at the first hurdle. Hoping someone here might be able to provide an explanation from the error log. Clicking on the 'Check for a solution' link just takes me to a message in the support centre saying there's no information on this error.
The error is: "An error occured while creating media. Failed to create bootable media by using Apple Software Restore."
The log is attached. I'd be really grateful if someone who knows what they're talking about can work out what's going wrong.
Thanks
D

Hi,
Thanks for getting back to me so quickly. :)
Free space wasn't the issue. I'm using a blank 1TB drive.
I solved the issue by reformatting the drive using Disk Utility. It was originally formatted as Mac OS Extended (HFS+) with MBR partition table. I re-formatted it as HFS+ with GUID partition, and the bootable media process worked.
So I solved the issue, but only by chance. I am still left with questions about the root cause:
1 - As far as I can see from the user guide, MBR/GUID shouldn't matter. It just says supported file systems on Mac are APFS and HFS+ and the drive was HFS+.
2 - And even if the drive wasn't formatted correctly to start with, the user guide states that "If the drive has another file system, Acronis True Image suggests formatting the drive."
So I am still wondering why the software didn't suggest reformatting the drive and instead produced an error?
The error log seems to suggest the system was looking for version 10.14. of BaseSystem.dmg and not finding it. None of that means anything to me, but I'm wondering whether the real issue is still there.
It's great that my reformatting worked, but I still don't feel like I've solved what the issue is or was!
Thanks again
D

David,
sorry for the delayed response and thank you for sharing the outcome!

I'll bring up this issue at our meeting with the RnD, the product should reformat the target drive if needed (or produce a clear message stating what operation failed). If by any chance you have time and possibility to reproduce the issue and send us feedback with log files, we'd really appreciate that!

I'm trying to create a Acronis bootable media with Acronis Cyber Protect Home office but without success. It always give me this error: "An error occurred while creating media. Failed to make image with bootable media."
I'm using a 16GB Sandisk USB drive formatted as follow:
Mac OS Extended (Journaled)
GUID Partition Map

Adrian, welcome to these public User Forums.
Please see Creating bootable media > Creating Acronis bootable media from the ACPHO for Mac user manual.
If you still have a problem, then I can only recommend opening a Support case direct with Acronis Support. I have no experience with the Mac version of Acronis!
