Backup keeps failing on validation portion
This is a recent issue. My last successful backup was on 11/27/2010 for the last 3 days all my backups fail at the very end in the last few minutes when validating. I have tried on 2 separate usb drives. The backup seems to complete. This makes me nervous.
Any ideas. The error reads "failed to open data stream"

Ok a Manual Validation succeeded. I wonder If I can trust these backups? I wonder if the issue has to do with selecting the validation option when backup is created

I had the same issue with the new build 6597. My first backup went through, but the validation got stuck close to the end. I had to cancel the validation and do a manual validation. I never had this issue with the previous builds of 2011...
I tried to run another backup manually, and got the same issue. Automatic validation after the backup doesn't complete! I can cancel the validation. When I cancel, I now get a confirmation that the backup is complete. The log confirms the operation is complete but is showing an error message attached.
I will try later with a scheduled validation and report back.

To follow up on my previous post: I verified that scheduled validation are going through as expected.
I rechecked "validate after backup". I ran a new manual backup and the validation didn't go through.
So at this point it is impossible to run a backup with validation.

As TI uses Linux when carrying out a restore, irrespective of whether the restore is starts from within Windows or the rescue CD, it is important that you check that the rescue CD can "see" all your drives and that the images validate from it as well.
However as the image validates when starting a separate validation, I assume that the behaviour you are seeing is an undocumented feature of the latest build. I seem to remember that this has happened with previous versions as well! Perhaps someone with a better memory can confirm.

This is the first time I have had this issue. Although I just started within the last year validating at the time of backup. I wonder if support is even aware of this problem. For me it is not that big of a deal to run a backup and validate it after, but I prefer to start my backup and set it to shut off the machine and come back later with a new validated backup in one step instead of two.

I submitted a support ticket for this issue. I am not holding my breath for a quick resolution.

Hi,
I have the same problem, just started today after upgrading to build 6597 yesterday!
Come on Acronis, have you never heard of regression testing....!

Pat L If you get a resolution Please post it here. I had a live chat session yesterday and perhaps if enough people contact support they will at least acknowledge this issue in this thread. Occasionally I see what appears to be Acronis employees responding in this forum.

Hi guys,
Customer support suggested that I installed the latest build...
Anyway, I is how I solved the issue. I am not sure all the steps are absolutely necessary, but this is what I did anyway:
- deleted all backups after moving TIB files to another location (to avoid any possible issue with lingering tib files)
- used the 2011 clean up utility to remove 6597
- reinstalled 6597
- recreated completely new backup schemes with new destination folders.
This solved the issue.

Where do you get the cleanup utility. Never mind I found it. Basically what you are saying is uninstall and reinstall acronis.
