"FaiLed to read" during backup

Thread needs solution

I am using Acronis True Image Home 2011 (registered) and trying to take an image of each of two hard drives, but the last few nights the backup has failed, with part of the log reading:

Read error (0x70003)
Tag = 0xDF81DA2C74EC501E
Failed to read the snapshot. (0x10C45A)
Tag = 0x14181C22EF45AD4F
CRC error (0x100155)
Tag =

I have run chkdsk : /f on both hard drives, but the same message keeps popping up.
What can I do about this?

Hello Graham!

Welcome to our Forum, we're glad to greet you here! I understand your concern, and will be glad to help you!

Thank you for the information provided. Unfortunately it still doesn't shed much light on the issue: it's related to the SnapAPI drivers being unable to properly access the drive, and take a snapshot, but it's still not clear what exactly's causing it.

Before we proceed with the investigation, I'd advise you to follow the instructions mentioned in these 2 articles: 1514 and 15725. Both of them are related to SnapAPI update and options.

Should the problem remain, please gather Acronis Info and contact support directly with the information attached. Keep in mind that should there be any procrastination with the reply, you can always specify us the case number. We will do our best to speed up the process.

Should you need anything else or have any further questions - feel free to contact us at your earliest convenience, we will be happy to help you!

Thank you!

I followed 1514 through but the problem remained exactly as before, so I started on 15725. There were no disk errors so I tried to install SnapAPI586, but it found the earlier snap driver installed as per 1514. So I uninstalled the earlier driver, was prompted to restart and did so. However the computer than failed to boot and Win7 offered to repair my startup, but the automatic repair failed. So I used my restore points to go back to the earlier snap drivers, and restarted successfully, but of course the original Snap problem remains and I nowneed advice as to how to get Snap586 installed without reintroducing the boot problem

I'm attaching the Acronis Report text file, and also a System Report, though I realise that I really haven't reached Instruction 6 of 15725, but maybe it will nonetheless be of some assistance.

Hello Graham,

Thank you for replying.

I found old traces of Acronis SnapApi drivers in the Windows System Information file included in the AcronisInfo report. It is possible, a conflict between the old and the new version is causing the backup issue and, after you tried to install 586 made your system unbootable. By the way, your disks show no errors so this must be a SnapApi issue.

I would recommend the following way to proceed:

1. From Windows add/remove programs remove any SnapApi installations and reboot your PC.

2. Please use this KB article and manually remove SnapApi traces from your system.

3. Try applying 586 one more time please, and let me know if it installs or if your system became unbootable again.

4. If #3 installs successfully, please refer to this article and collect SnapApi logs and one more copy of AcronisInfo report if your backups still fail.

Just in case, please download the bootable media from your Acronis web-account and create a backup of your system.

Looking forward to your reply and if you have additional questions, please let me know.

Thank you.
