No Report for off-host tasks ?

Thread needs solution

Hey there, one of the features of 12.5 is that I can create off-host plans. So I can validate a backup with another agent or that I can do a replication job later. But what I´m wondering: Is there really no report on failure or sucess ? Is there a way that I receive after the completion wheher it was successful or not? I can hardly believe that this is not possible... Regards S.

Hi Sven!

What sort of report are you looking for?

If validation fails you'll have an alert with a type of "Validation failed" in addition to the failed task (see attachment)

Hey Peter,

currently I receive an e-mail if a backup-plan finishes and I get an information whether it was sucessful or not.
This happens also if I start the plan manually.

If I run an off-host validation (I started it manually) I get no mail.

So I do not know whether tha validation is executed successfully.

Can I assume, that a mail is sent, if any problems occur and so I can conclude "everything went fine" if I receive no mail ?

Regards

Sven

Hello Sven,

thank you for posting on Acronis forums!

Email notification for mini-plans (off-host tasks) is not implemented yet. I will add your vote in the respective feature request (ABR-213262 Send notifications for mini plans).

Hello Maria,
so there is even no failure mail for these off-host tasks ?

I cannot believe this as this is one of the promoted new features of 12.5 ABA and I cannot believe that a product manager at Acronis really said "well cool feature, but we need no notification".

How can I then monitor the success or failure of these plans?
Do the results show up at least in the mail I receive if I activate "Daily recap about active alerts" ?

Sven

Hi Sven!

As a workaround you could do something like the query in my attachment to find the information you need from the TaskManager DB (%APPDATA%\Acronis\TaskManager\task_manager_db.sqlite3)
You could then have a program poll for this result set and send an email if neccessary. I know it's a lot of work for something that seems so trivial.

If the task manager db would be an mssql db though it could simply be implemented with a trigger that sends an email if a task gets updated which you are interested in.

I'm not sure if I overlooked or there was no option to specify a database for the taskmanager, but would help a lot to build database level queries for some ad-hoc queries for Acronis administrators if an mssql db could be specified.

Hey Peter,
thanks for the hints.

Honestly spoken in my eyes it´s quite a shame that a software that costs us nearly 1000bucks maintenance per year (!) has a highly promoted feature as off-host tasks and that feature cannot tell me as admin if it was successful ?!?

Very dissatisfying.

And Marias info (thanks for that) that this is already a feature request is some kind of fun fact.
Why do i have to vote for a feature request of such an elementary feature as reporting by mail.
Is this such a seldom requirement?

Well I will dig a bit deeper.

Maybe the Daily Recap might lead to success.
I am satisfied if I get an information when something went wrong.

The only thing I must rethink is how to create a failed validation task...

Hi Sven!

I'm confused about this:

Email notification for mini-plans (off-host tasks) is not implemented yet. I will add your vote in the respective feature request (ABR-213262 Send notifications for mini plans).

It seems to me that notification about a successful off-host task is what's missing. Because I've just tried that I get both alerts and if configured for the alerts email as well (see an example of such an email). This was a validation plan ran by the agent on a storage node manually.

If this is the case, your use case is already solved, namely to get an email about a failed off-host task, and get none if it's successful.

Hey Peter,

thanks for your testing.

As you can see I asked in Post #2:

Can I assume, that a mail is sent, if any problems occur and so I can conclude "everything went fine" if I receive no mail ?

And as Maria answered this with the reference to the not implemented feature I read this as answer and that I also get no information if something goes wrong within an off-host task.

But your test shows now something different....

So the following goes to Maria:

Is it correct that any warnings/errors/critical errors triggered by an off-host task will send an email (if it´s configured to do so) ?

If yes this would be exactly that what I want, that´s right Peter.

Maybe Marias reference to a non existing feature mislead me a little bit?

Regards
Sven

Hello Sven,

please accept my apologies for misleading you.

Of course, as Peter has already testes, sending alerts to emails can be configured in the reporting section (Overview -> Reports -> select Alerts).

Email notification as a separate feature is going to be implemented in off-host plans options (follow Plans -> Validation -> select a validation plan, click on Details, Edit and on the gear icon (Settings) - you will not see email notification option there).

Hello Maria,

so to sum up:
- in the future off-host plans will get the same mail options as backup plans do currently

- currently off-host plans inherit the alert settings from the global settings

Is this correct?
I summed it up in short statements to help others that may find this thread to find the result easily.

Yes, this is correct. Thank you for summing it up for other forum users.

Hey Maria,
thanks for the support and confirmation...
I think this might be also a point that would be worth a word in the manual.

Do you have a schedule for this feature or is it currently only "planned"`?
Hopefully there is a schedule as many of the "planned" features that were told me when I switched to 12.5 are not implemented yet ;-)

Hello Sven,

checked the details of the related feature request ABR-213262 - it is currently not assigned to a particular milestone. We continue gathering the votes for this feature.

I´d like to bring up this topic ?

Is there now - over a year later - a planned date or still none?

Hello Sven,

unfortunately there is no exact ETA for this feature request.
