How move from AHI 9.0 XP to Windows 7?

Thread needs solution

Hi, I've spent over an hour looking through FAQs and the Forum and couldn't find the procedure:

I have Acronis True Image 9.0 Home on my old Windows XP machine which I no longer use and want to keep using Acronis on my new Windows 7 Pro 32 bits machine.

From what I have seen at least my build of 9.0 is not fully compatible with Windows 7. So what do I need to do?

Do I have to instal this old version anyway and then instal an upgrade on top
or do I have to go back to my old PC and uninstal it first?

Or can I just download and instal the AHI 11 upgrade for $35.69 directly on the new machine and enter the old serial number?

It would help others to have this procedure easy to find in the FAQs. Thanks.

You have two options.

1. Purchase an upgrade copy of TIH 2011, install it, and then enter your TI 9 and 2011 upgrade serial number and then remove TI 9 from your old machine.

2. the better course (in my view) purchase a full copy of 2011 install on your W7 machine, and then do whatever you want with the TI 9 copy.

Thanks Colin.

I was planning to reformat my old harddrive for reuse for backup. Do I need to uninstal TI 9 anyway first with online feedback to Acronis for the upgrade to work or can I just erase?

Why is paying more for a full copy of 2011 the better course in your view? Is there any difference in functionality?

It's not necessary to uninstall TI 9 first. It won't affect the new install. Just erase the drive.

I think Colin was suggesting the full version so that you could still legally use TI 9 on another computer. However, if you have no plans to do this, the upgrade version is fine (you just need the two serial numbers to install). There is no difference in functionality.
